This game is frankly a master class in platforming action-adventure. Shovel Knight feels like Mega Man, with:

- Link's Zelda 2 spells (styled like Mega Man's items).
- Scrooge McDuck's pogo jump.
- Castlevania wall meat.
- Wario treasure hunting.

Each major level takes about 15 minutes which, while slow for a Mega Man game, is perfect for the busy gamer that may only have 15 minutes at a time to play. Levels are packed and have a really good difficulty scale. Nothing seems insurmountable, and you have all of the tools you need for the time. You even get all the gold you need without grinding. All the items are useful, and you will learn the maps well.

If you like the genre, it's a must play.
