Absolute old school blast. Feels like what the arcades did in the 90s, except it looks way better!

To start, I do recommend this game, especially if you're a steam deck owner. You can run medium to medium low settings at 50% scaling, and keep close to 60fps (obviously some dips)

Pros: The story is great, the cat is great. The graphics look good at steam deck-able settings, and really good on my desktop at highest settings at 4k.

Cons: My only issue, and it's a pretty big issue imo, is that I beat it in 6 "in-game" hours, and I died a bunch. I've spent more time in some demo's. I'm an "old" gamer in my mid 30s and I would expect a younger me, someone who is more into "adventure"/"puzzle" games would finish it even quicker.

Glad I got it on sale, but it was good enough that I will play for DLC that doubles game time, or stray 2 if it's more like 15-20hrs of in-game time.

Great game, tons to do. Yes there are many issues, but updates have cleaned up performance issues, and the overall experience is very enjoyable. It isn't peak Bethesda, but it is a solid mid tier launch from them, which means its still playable and fun. I personally give it a solid 8/10 overall. Ship building can be super fun, and incredibly frustrating, but usually ends up close to what you can think up. The variation in planets could be better, but randomly exploring and finding POI's can be a blast. Companions are meh, but could be worse.

*Spoiler*
I wish NG+ and on could have the opportunity to change your 3 traits, I'm at level 106 I believe, and starting completely over to experience of the others seems like a slog....

There are many valid complaints to BF2042 in what its missing. What BF2042 does right, is a fun time with friends running around reviving each other, going from point to point having a blast. It's too different from CoD for many gamers that they have to say its "bad". If you expect EA to launch a game that doesn't crash or runs smoothly right away, you must not have played ANY previous BF game at launch.
BF2042 is for sure missing some stuff, many creature comforts, and some bigger things, but overall, its still a fun time if you like BF games. (WAY better than BF5 imo, which was BF1 with WW2 weapons)

Dota2 will consume you once you get into it. It is a blast to play with friends, but be wary of the toxicity of many players, and the insane number of ragers and trolls. If you have a crew to play with, go for it!
