I don’t normally write reviews for the games I play, but I owed it to Persona 4 Golden to write this one. I will first start with the following:
I DON’T watch Anime.
I DON’T enjoy JRPG’s.

In saying that, I couldn’t recommend this game more. I was gifted this game after being told to play it for a year by one of my friends. I was very reluctant, as I tend to avoid anime or what I thought was anime-esque in nature. However, upon finishing the game I apologized to my friend as I thoroughly enjoyed the unforgettable experience. (And I can’t wait to play Persona 5)

In essence, Persona 4 Golden is a relationship simulator with an interesting plot with many twists and turns. THIS is the game. The dialogue and story is the game… at least to me. To address the JRPG aspect of the game, if you are hesitant, don’t be. I played the game on the default “medium” difficulty, and nearly quit until I was told to lower the difficulty and raise the experience and money gain in combat. This changed the game for me, as I was able to focus more on the social links with other characters and the story of Persona 4 Golden.

Please, if you don’t like JRPG’s, turn down the difficulty, as the main aspect of this game is the story and relationships between characters.
Did I run through a lot of dungeons and avoid combat? Yes.
Was my Persona 35 levels lower than it should have been at the end of the game? Yes.
Did I not upgrade any of my gear until the end of the game? Yes.

It didn’t matter for the difficulty I was on, and why worry about the combat if it’s the aspect of a game you enjoy the least? That’s not to say Persona 4 Golden is a bad JRPG, I can’t compare it to others because I haven’t played any other JRPG’s, but I’m not going to downvote a game because I don’t like the genre. I wouldn’t buy a racing game and downvote it because I just hate racing games, it wouldn’t be fair.
Really there is only one thing that you should ask yourself if you are on the fence of buying it:
Do you enjoy a good story with memorable characters?

If you were like me, took one glance, saw it was an anime or a JRPG and clicked away - DON’T.
I’ve never played a game that made me smile so much.

Good game but allow the player to remove the camera bob when jumping. Makes me sick.
