I went into this game completely blind and not expecting anything, and just recently i fully finished it. I can confidently say that this is probably my most favorite game of all time.

Pathologic is probably one of the most unique experiences you can have while playing a game. The mechanics are janky, there are tons of systems that seem "off" and the general feel of the game is very strange and unsettling... But that's what makes this game so wonderful. You're not given any of the tools to deal with your problems, you're directly airdropped into a situation where all the odds are against you and with the game actively trying to hinder your ability to do something about your tasks at hand, you have to be the maker of your own future. This is exactly what makes the game feel so satisfying, even with everything seeming so impossible and incomprehensible you can still pull through and survive.

The writing style in this game is also incredible, i'm a native russian speaker so i chose to play through the game in the original language, however i did play a few hours with the newly translated English version and i think the translators did a very good job mimicking the feel the game is going for. The writing style and mood of the game reminds me a lot of the Strugatsky Brothers' books like "Roadside Picnic" and "Noon: XXII century" (the latter of which is my favorite). The story is told in a slightly confusing and non-linear way, so you have to think about what is even happening to you since day one when you have to try your hardest to survive. It feels so strange and alien, yet very nostalgic and human at the same time. You're walking around an imaginary small city in the russian steppe and while there are subtle things i can recognize as normal, like the houses and the streets and the way people speak, but there are also completely incomprehensible structures lying around here and there and everyone treats them like they're everyday things to them.

The town is like an ugly torn up toy. Sure it's off-putting and strange the first time you see it but later on while playing Pathologic i got so used to it, it's almost like second home to me now, i know all the small streets and houses and how every walkway intersects with one another. Over time i've grown accustomed to the game and its feel and I felt genuinely sad when i had to make the walk to the last objective on the final day.

But at any rate, as much as i don't want to let go, It's time for me to part ways with Pathologic. I hope whoever is reading this considers playing it too and i wish you could have as great of an experience as i did.

Go and try it now. No reason not to. You get a thousand hours of gameplay at the cost of a candy bar and 500mb of space, it's that good.

There are no words that can describe my immense love for Gloomwood. I went into it expecting a buggy low-end version of Thief... And i was proven wrong. It's a unique and rich experience that left me in complete awe after i finished it.

Despite it being pretty short, it offers so many unique and interesting mechanics for you to play around with. Every encounter with your enemies is essentially a puzzle that can be solved with your quick thinking and a little help from your razor-sharp blade.

The game is also great at executing its horror elements. The old-gen graphics in almost complete darkness at times tricks your brain into perceiving every strange movement in the darkness as a threat. I remember the blood-chilling an experience of getting through the old marketplace with only one small lantern in your offhand.

It would also be a crime not to mention the music in the game, even for a moment... It's just that perfect! Every soundtrack stands out on its own, my favorite being the phonograph. When i first played i couldn't help myself but stand in front of any of them for a few minutes just after i saved the game... It is the very moment when you can feel comfort and calm in this dark, desolate wretched town.

I haven't played many stealth immersive sims but this one has got to be one of my favorites. I will be looking forward to any new additions and updates to this game and i cannot wait to see how the final products plays out.

My heart goes out to the developers, i give Gloomwood an 11/10. An absolute masterpiece that you should play, no reason not to try it out.
