Early Access Review
The game is far from good but is not attrocious either. I can appreciate the effort made by the dev to create a FPS/platformer that doesnt take itself seriously. Most of the game-braking bugs come once you get the grappling hook which works 1/3 of the times once you understand how the dev (maybe) intended it to work. The wall-running and and crouching/sliding mechanic are not performing at they normally should making you get stuck often in the environment. The levels are diverse enough for the entire legth of the game to make you feel glad that once you`ve beaten the 20th level you won`t need to touch the game again, unless the dev decides to add more substance.

Aside from the repetitive crashes and bugs that a good portion of the playerbase experienced with this live-service game since its release 3 months ago, the gameplay itself can become quite repetitive after a while. Yes other modes and warbonds have been added quite rapidly to spice up the interaction with the world and add to the immersive aspect that Helldivers 2 has become known for. As far as extraction looter-shooters go, this second outing of SONY`s IPO has certainly raised the bar in terms of adding a plethora of decent attributes that would allow for strong community building and partaking in the enjoyment of spreading authori... sorry, managed democracy throughout its fairly contained gameworld against two other enemy races.

Yes the game can be very buggy at times (getting stuck in the map/environment or on the ship, stratagems backfiring, getting stuck in 1st person-view, crashes when launching the game, crashes when extracting, crashes when changing settings while in the mission, some connectivity issues, etc) to such an extent that it hinders the immersion factor, even after several patches.

But what if, even with all these issues that most will undoubtedly be worked on and fixed by the dev team, you still want to continue playing the game, engaging with other helldivers and the world created by Arrowhead Studios, in this crossplay system that they were able to add as a feature to Helldivers 2 so that PSN and PC players can squad-up to pound or get pounded on by Terminids or Automatons?

Well you can IF you are willing to abide by the newest edict from Super Ear... sorry SONY. Enforcing the necessity of linking the game and your Steam account to a PSN account which, for PC players that do not own a PS console, really doesn't make a lot of sense. According to SONY it`s for security purposes and to protect the players by adding a ban feature to be used on bad actors. I personally think that it is a tactic to attract Steam users to PSN and boost revenues on SONY`s platform (get that share price higher). Secondly, SONY`s security measures have been tested quite a few times in the past decades and lets say that data leaks, data breaches, hacking of accounts has become prevalent with the PSN service. To those that say ''it takes 2 minutes to create a PSN account'' and that ''it's free'', you have to understand that the issue is much larger than ''oh stop whining its a free easy additional step'' to continue playing the game. The truth is that Helldivers 2 has been falsely advertised not only to Steam users but to Steam players that live in countries that are not allowed to create a PSN account.

I, for one, am very interested to see how this type of decision will impact the overall sales numbers for Helldivers 2 in the long run, but more importantly how Steam gamers will from now on choose to support other SONY IPOs that are also released on the Steam platform or purchase any SONY consoles for that matter.

Cute colourful low poly artstyle with a short but fun story. The diorama puzzles are somewhat difficult in hardcore mode for some levels/mini games. Worth the time spent all in all and the game has very few bugs, I,ve only noticed some in the minigames, especially in hardcore mode where you have to beat a time counter. Very recommended!

A very nice puzzl-platformer with some pretty decent game design! Can be very fun playing the 2 characters simultaneously if a loner. If not, find a friend. :)

Pretty decent horror atmospheric game with flaws that other devs can learn from.
The devs created a somewhat believeable atmosphere, pretty cool cutscenes and intro scene. The goals are not very well defined for the player, though. The player and camera movement still need work. A darkness slider would be useful because sometimes in shower areas with A LOT of vapour/fog, you can barely see where you're moving towards. The UI needs work as well, the buttons not really responsive for me. Also when you pick up ammo or health packs, you need to open your inventory to use them because there is no input set up to do it just during the gameplay. (ex: R for Reload, T for Manual Healing, just as tips)
The save system could be improved (you have to go back to the main menu to load a save game). Enemy AI would need some work as well, because it can get annoying constantly getting trappedinto level furniture that you can't jump over, by 5-6 porcupines that just rush at you. One lasr porcupine shot at me through a door that I closed, so the mechanic where you try to block them in a room, sometimes doesn't work properly.

Scores:

Graphics: 6/10
Game Mood: 7/10
Sound: 6/10
User Interface: 3/10
Controls: 6/10
Level design: 6/10
Gameplay: 5.5/10

Insightful story with tearjerker moments. It is also an enjoyable platformer with some difficult moments where the AI might be lacking. but pleasant nonetheless. The unlockable clips that allow you to learn about the inuit communities are very valuable. A very good indie game, all in all!

Very pleasant and satisfying gameplay. Exploration is on par with some of the best AAA games recently. Indie games can go toe to toe with some of the best and AER proves it. Narration/dialogue and level design are well done. Very recommended!
