Overall this is a very cool game dripping with visual style. Being forced to lay low and choose your battles very carefully is a lot of fun. That being said, this game is not forgiving and is in very early access. As such there are still frustrating moments that could cause some players to drop the game entirely.

If the devs are reading this, here are my desires/suggestions for the game:
- Add going prone/crawling for increased stealth
- If you get downed and enemies start to walk away, they shouldnt be immediately alerted when you get picked up.
- Having enemies spawn in within 20 feet of you is insane makes it very difficult to gauge when its actually safe to engage in combat

If I could recommend this game as "Yes, but..." I would. Overall this game is above average but nothing crazy. Certainly a welcome return to the side-scrolling metroidvania genre compared to previous entries in the series. The game really shines in the final act after you have unlocked all abilities. Which is a real shame because I had done basically all of my exploring and side quests before then. Most of the bosses are just okay with none of them being particularly challenging. The puzzles and jump challenges were where I consistently had the most fun and were really the redeeming quality of the game. The in-game screenshot to map mechanic was the most unique part of this game. Great for remembering to come back somewhere after you've unlocked a specific ability. More metroidvania's should adopt that feature.

The joining of Hollow Knight and Sekiro makes for one of the most satisfying metroidvanias I have had the pleasure of playing. 10/10

Short and sweet. ~14 hours to finish the story, side missions, and gather all collectibles. Great story and combat is an improvement from the first Marvel's Spider-Man.

As someone who typically doesn't enjoy turn-based RPGs, this game is fantastic. The pixel art is just beautiful. The soundtrack is full of catchy earworms (shout out to RainbowDragonEyes on his return after The Messenger.) The puzzles were well spaced and while maybe a little on the easy side, they never felt repetative and remained fun. The writing was a joy and the world expanded upon from The Messenger left me wondering what other plans Sabotage has in store for this universe.

The most common sticking point I see people talk about is how basic the combat is. Frankly it felt just right for me. Each character has 4 individual moves and a larger pool of combos shared with other party members. While there a few moves that I certainly favored over others (moonarang and disorient, namely) I felt every ability had good use cases. Turn-based combat in RPGs is usually rather boring to me but the timing and lock features were just the right thing to keep me engaged.

IMO Sabotage Studios is 2 for 2.
