Edit: I'm going to change my review to negative. The Sony situation is pretty messed up and was the tipping point, but there are other problems with the game that I'd like to detail here.

Firstly, nProtect. I have absolutely no idea why this game needs kernel-level anticheat when the entire game is co-op PvE. The developers made a reddit post explaining why they needed anticheat, that people were hacking supplies or something in Helldivers 1. Alright, sure. You may need anticheat. But why the worst one? There are other anticheats that are far less intrusive, and I'd wager you probably don't need the best of the best for a PvE game. nProtect is pretty much the worst anticheat on the market, and they stayed firm on that decision which is insanely disappointing.

Secondly, the progression. This game has absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ progression. Early game you have a complete blast. Everything's going well. But once you hit level 10 (though it really starts to show when you near level 15), progression slows to a crawl. This game uses a battle pass-like system called Warbonds. You use medals to unlock stuff and go to the next page. By the time you hit level 15ish, your progression slows to a crawl. The amount of medals you get per mission is laughable. There are two challenges, one weekly where you can get around 50-60 Medals which is one of the fastest ways to get them. But otherwise you're basically SoL. You need hundreds, if not thousands to complete the first Battle Pass. Then to even unlock the other Battle Passes you need Super Credits. These are premium currency that you can sometimes find in-game but it's quite rare. There are a few SC packs in the first Battle Pass, and you can stack all of those to unlock the second Battle Pass. But as for the others? Good luck.

This wouldn't bother me so much if there was enough variety in the game. But the cold, sad truth is that there really isn't. There's maybe three or four different kinds of objectives, and only two factions you fight. Bugs and robots. Probably around 5-10 hours in you've played all the mission variety already. Then after that you're just going through the motions. It's monotonous. I'm one of the very few people who actually played the first Helldivers before this game, and the reason why it works in that game is that A. The game was lowkey and meant to be just a small couch co-op game, and B. I only spent $3 on it on a sale. At $40 the progression problems and the lack of variety really kills this game.

Lastly, there's big daddy Sony forcing PSN accounts. I don't really need to comment on this situation, the entire internet has already done it.

So for all these reasons, I'm changing my review to negative, and even if Sony backtracks on their plan to force PSN accounts, I won't be changing my review for the other reasons listed.

I stayed in a game where nearly everyone left at match point and nearly won the round. The enemy team was actually cheering me on and thanking me that I didn't leave. This game is great.

Early Access Review
I love this game. The control sucks, but that's the charm in it and I wouldn't have it any other way. The music especially in level 1 is kickass and the options are endless. However, I would love if you guys added some more options, like white, wheat, rye, pumpernicle, monk's, etc. and also if there would be a multiplayer function where friends could embark on quests to become toasted together. Great game, 10/10 GOTY.

I would not recommend this game. While almost having the look of Quake III, sadly it isn't. I think the game would've faired better if they just ported good ol' Quake III to Steam and made it free. It's plagued with problems and does not make you want to come back for more.

Game of The Year here. I haven't had this much fun in a videogame in a long time. A fun concept, many ways to play, BALANCED gameplay, etc. If you're a gamer of any kind, casual or hardcore, you won't be disappointed.

**I saw a hacker yesterday. Fix this devs. Even regarding the ONE hacker I saw the match was still fun and we all kicked him. 10/10.
