The main story and the atmosphere of the setting is pretty compelling. That said, repetitive gameplay and strange design decisions really get in its way.

Things i did like: The voice performances are all kind of stilted and weird, but I think that adds to the Twin Peaks-y vibe. The PNW setting looks great and scary at night. The central supernatural plot is cool and deals with some themes about artists and the nature of creating that I did enjoy.

For all the interesting story beats this game has, its a shame that the core gameplay loop is so simple. You've seen everything you're going to do in the game after the first couple of hours. It has a problem that I find a lot of games do, especially of this Era: they've got maybe four or five good plot beats to hit but they stretch out the runtime of the game with a bunch of pointless action sections in between. "We need to get from point A to point B but oh no, look! The bridge is out so we have to go around and take twice as long" for no real reason type beat. If the main shooting gameplay was particularly fun I don't think it would be as much of an issue. Unfortunately, there isn't much to the moment to moment gunplay and it wears thin pretty quickly.

And then the final episode or two tries to crank up the difficulty by just hurting a lot more bad guys at you than normal and adding questionable platforming sequences.

There's about 10 to 15 hours of game here but probably only needed about 5 or 6 to really tell its story. I think if you're interested in the story of this game, you wouldn't be missing much to just watch a recap or longplay. By the end, I was frustrated but hungry for more of the story.

This game is, for most intents and purposes, the new Jet Set Radio I would have wanted up to this point. Nails the aesthetics and vibe of the JSR games while still managing to carve out its own feel. This applies to the visuals as well as the soundtrack: they've got the requisite Hideki Naganuma tracks and random sampling of hip-hop and big beat stuff, but also throw in some funkier and poppier stuff that still fits the overall oeuvre of the game.

I thought the characters and story were fun and just compelling enough to draw me through to the end, though I was mostly looking forward to hearing new songs, seeing new graffitis, learning new dances, and exploring new areas.

I highly recommend this game!

More depth than I would have expected (or honestly cared about) in a Mortal Kombat game. I like the characterization of pretty much all the klassic crew and the new folks are pretty cool too. Story mode was cool, but why did they cast Ronda Rousey as Sonya Blade? And why was Steve Blum Sub-Zero?

this game plays like doom meets downwell and I'm all about that and also the graphics are really cool and flash a lot. you run and shoot a bunch of gnarly monsters over and over until you can make it to the end. you should play this game and it's cheap too

I own this game on three different platforms. It's a rogue-like arcade shooter and the only buttons are left, right, and jump/shoot. Think Spelunky crossed with Mario with vague strains of shmup.

A fun puzzle game with a quaint and cute atmosphere and cool painterly aesthetic. At first the narrative felt a little too hammy in its romanticized, "stop and smell the roses" attitude but it won me over by the end.

Fast-paced, swashbuckling tug-o-war with cool graphics and an appropriately intense soundtrack. Best played against friends locally.

The name to beat in arcade racing. I love Road Rage events and just driving around really fast is enthralling enough by itself. The crash mode is pretty odd compared to the older Burnout games but the strength of everything else here makes up for them screwing up what was essentially the franchise's hallmark game mode.

If you play no other modern shooter, play this. Polished to high hell and entertaining the whole way through with a badass soundtrack.
