I was so excited when they added co-op, but then I didn't have anybody to play with. Still, a fun game single player and it's awesome that they've still released new content over the years.

I haven't gotten beyond the first planet yet, but I've been taking my time and exploring as much as possible and I'm just about to move on to the next planet. I only say this to echo that the map is deceptively small looking compared to the amount of time you'll spend exploring it. But in the mean time, I wanted to get a review in, because I really enjoy this game despite a couple negatives.

It feels similar to Steamworld Dig 1 & 2, but with more features and goals. The puzzles have been fun, but not too difficult so far. Combat isn't too challenging on Normal difficulty. Most monsters are more of a nuisance to swat down while digging further. It took me a while to get comfortable with the game, but I blame that on using a controller instead of keyboard and mouse.

As far as those negatives, the main one is how awkward using a controller feels. I've been trying to adapt but I think there's too many things to control with just a controller. You have to remember combos in order to access certain menus or reset puzzles (RB + A, if you forget). I still accidentally hit "A" and teleport to wrong areas, when I'm just trying to toggle on an item to show up in the mini map. It also took me forever to change the video settings, to the point that it was easier to unplug my controller and then use keyboard and mouse to get setup. And you can't toggle on "Show Cursor" and still effectively use a controller, since the cursor will now aim for you instead of being able to click the mini map buttons. Basically, I recommend keyboard and mouse.

Lastly, a minor complaint. My video resolution settings don't appear to save once you close the game. It keeps reverting back to the default, which is 1920 x 2160, so you're in luck if that's your norm already! Otherwise, it's helped me practice using a controller to get through menus. Which isn't the kind of thing I want to spend my time practicing, so I'll probably switch over to keyboard and mouse.

Especially worth it when on sale, as you can see I've sunk over 300 hours on this game. The music, neon, and over-the-top storyline makes it very replayable and was a great introduction to the Far Cry games. Since starting on this I picked up Far Cry 3 and every Far Cry released since. This remains my favorite while I feel the others have varied in quality in terms of entertainment/plot.
