The game that I couldn't get to experience for almost 8 years...
I finally have...

As a person playing video games ever since my childhood, I genuinely believe that there isn't any combination of words or phrases which could accurately describe the emotions this masterpiece of a game evoked in me.
Friendship. Love. Hate. Loyalty. Fidelity. Betrayal. Honor. Good. Evil.
All these themes are thoroughly intertwined with one another due to the realistic and cruel nature of the game and its brilliantly written characters.
It's not just a game; It's a piece of art... It's a piece of art so unique that it would never be replicated for many years to come, if ever...

THE DARK SOULS

-INTRODUCTION-
Since its launch in 2011, Dark Souls has always been notorious for its difficulty and annoyance. Therefore, I wanted to try it out and see whether these assumptions were true or not.

-STORY-
First of all, Dark Souls, just like most other games, has a story, a lore, so to speak. Yet, game does not bother trying to tell the story and help players understand it. Aside from the first opening cutscene of the game and a couple of dialogues, you have pretty much nothing. So, when you finish the game, if you feel like you are missing something out, do not worry. It is quite usual, and I highly suggest looking it up on Dark Souls Wiki.

-DIFFICULTY & MECHANICS-
It is undisputable that this game is more difficult than any other game on the market. Yet, its difficulty does not derive from the game mechanics, or the fact that creatures you fight being hard to deal with, it comes from ignorance. Whole system of this game is built upon exploration and knowledge. First couple hours of gameplay are the hardest part. However, once you memorize what your enemies are capable of, know your environment, it becomes significantly easier. It is completely okay to die. In the beginning, you might get furious, curse, or rage quit for dying. But you must deal with it. Once you accept the fact that you are going to die a lot, and kill the same people all over again, your mental state starts to adapt. And when you are psychologically ready to play the game, you have to be ready for some stupid game mechanics as well. This game is old. So, there are some features that are missing. You can only jump whilst sprinting, you cannot climb ladders fast, you can only use healing potions while standing still, you cannot reach to some seemingly reachable areas, instead, you should find a way to get there by taking another path. Dodging is kind of tricky as well. Some bosses' hitboxes might cause trouble no matter where you roll to. Also, I feel like developers intentionally made some areas of the game unbalanced so that players would feel overwhelmed. For instance, the whole thing with Anor Londo archers is a JOKEEE. This is not about game being hard, it is just stupid design and unfair to play against.

-BOSSES-
Personally, Dark Souls has failed to meet my expectations regarding bosses. Apart from some unique bosses like Ornstein & Smough, The Four Kings, or Sif, most bosses seemed so easy that I was always expecting something more when fights ended. Yet, thanks to DLC’s, we get some pretty cool and hard bosses such as Manus and Artorias. Overall, some bosses were great, some were easy. Before playing the game, I believed that every single boss fight would make me sweat but that was not the case. Of course, having the opportunity to summon NPC's while you are human plays a crucial role in fighting bosses that otherwise would be challenging. I overcame some bosses with the help of NPC's. However, I kinda regret doing that and would not recommend it to anyone because it takes away the anxiety and fear of facing a boss alone.

-ABOUT THE REMASTER-
Originally, Dark Souls was 30 FPS, and had some bugs like stocking between objects, or invisible walls that prevent you from jumping etc. With this remastered version, we can play the game on 60 FPS. Yet, these bugs are still present in the game and that makes you wonder “Is this really a remaster?” However, other than some bugs, I did not have any issue playing the game with smooth 60 frames.

-CONCLUSION-
Although it has its downsides, if you have the patience, desire, and motivation to go through this, do not even think a second and buy this game. Personally, I think this is one of the greatest games ever made and even though it is renowned for its difficulty, its hardship really depends on practice and knowledge. Hence, do not feel discouraged, everyone should experience this game.
