This is probably one of my favorite games of all time. Most of my hours are on mobile so it's not accurate, but even though this game has common mobile game issues in regards to it's leveling system and gacha mechanics, I still have respect for it and play it occasionally. The art, music, and core gameplay are too good to ignore

Do not spend money on this game either though. You can 100% get to the top rank without spending money, as the levels tend to not be that bad, but I wouldn't give them money. I do not agree with how this game is monetized at all. The leveling and progression is gated by RNG, and you can subvert this by spending money to roll more.

Eventually you will run into whales that have phobies way stronger than yours, which is sometimes fine, and other times can COMPLETELY throw off how the game is clearly meant to be balanced. Some units are clearly meant to be killed in 1 or 2 turns (for example, the jar cannon) by specific units. Clear tradeoff for the amount of space it controls, punishing poor positioning.

Bumping it's health up beyond a threshold gives a player an OBSCENE advantage in terms of map control, as there are a handful of units all players have access to clearly meant to kill that jar cannon, that can no longer quickly dispose of it due to it having just a bit too much HP.

It sounds like a minor thing, but personally allowing these gacha mechanics to genuinely alter the flow of the game shows a lack of conviction and respect for how the game was clearly meant to be played. Imagine if in chess everything was equal except your opponent spent $50 so that his bishop could also move horizontally. ????

I have no idea why they opted to do this over cosmetics.

THERE IS AN EXPLOIT THAT ALLOWS PEOPLE TO BAN ANYONE THEY WANT. PLAY THIS GAME ONLINE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

UPDATE: If you are a random player, you are (probably) fine for NOW. There are random people that have access to developer tools that allow them to give your account (whether you are online or not) enough XP to become level 46, one level beyond the cap. This will restrict access to any multiplayer matches across all Garden Warfare games including BFN if it's connected to the same EA account.

This group of players claimed that they were going to use these tools responsibly, and a few days later decided to ban a youtuber that has done nothing wrong. Here is a video from the youtuber explaining what happened.

Is it safe to play? For now, sure. But these people have already demonstrated that they are wildly incompetent. You cannot recommend this game and leave out the fact there is a chance of this happening to anyone.

This exploit needs to be fixed NOW before these tools are leaked further, it is unacceptable that a game can have microtransactions and even go on sale yet have such a glaring issue not be immediately addressed.

UPDATE: The dev tools have allegedly been released into the public. I strongly recommend against playing online anymore.

I played this a decent amount during the open testing and after beating it a couple times, thought it was fine enough. But after waiting a few months for a large update or two, it still feels off. The gunplay just feels very weak, and the upgrades and items you get just aren't very fun or creative. I forget monsters even get stronger in the dark honestly, because they just get beefier, that's really it.

They heavily lean into this gimmick, but that's all it really is. A gimmick. Nothing wrong with gimmicks, but it doesn't really change how you play or approach them. You just shoot while slowly walking to the side so you don't die. Nothing your character does is particularly interesting or fun, and the gunplay feels so off. I wish I could explain it. Most games feel good from the jump, especially shooters, but this one doesn't. I think they need to take a step back and think about the core gameplay, because it just doesn't feel very varied or different.

They can add as much content with characters and maps but the enemies and gameplay itself just aren't there, when they should be at this stage.

wasted potential out the ass. was literally the best br game to have touched the market in it's prime. usually hi-rez will royally ♥♥♥♥ everything up and then fix it in the end when everyone stops caring. just wait for that lol.

recommend now? no, later when it's polished up and they finally figure out what they're doing? yeah

This game is not worth getting into, unless you prefer playing casually and completely ignoring end game in it's entirety. Too frustrating and the game does not respect your time and effort. Trust me as this is coming from one of the first +15 Wizards in NA West and a longtime supporter of MS in general. There are definitely good things about this game, but none of it is related to what Nexon expects the average player to do. (Raids, PvE content ofc)

The NA devs are actually nice people and they definitely are trying, but this game is rotten at it's core and there isn't much they can do about that.

This game is definitely a gem. I'd love to see a revival or something, this game has a lot of character. The humor isn't even for me but I still find the game very charming. The weapons, perks, killstreaks, deathstreaks, etc are all very unique and fun. I'd play it more but not many people are playing it anymore. Any gamemode that isn't team deathmatch is pretty much empty for the most part, so I'd just stick to team deathmatch.

Progression though is similar to CoD. You level up and unlock things like playercards, skins, emblems, goofy outfits for your character, etc. It feels good to earn coins and unlock things for your own character. The gameplay itself is also solid and pretty smooth. The guns feel responsive and fun, and they all have their own things that make certain people attracted to them. Same with the perks and other things you can add to your loadouts.

Speaking of loadouts, it's definitely the best thing about the game. This game is technically a "hero" shooter. But here you make your own hero / villain type character and play as them. They have different body types that give you different stats. And like other team based hero shooters, while the game is about the objective, you can play whatever the hell you want. There is no "pick tank or i throw" here. Your character can be whatever you want them to be. You could roll around on skates and cheer up your team with a megaphone, dive bomb people, blow people up, freeze them, whip out a sword or shuriken and get to slicing, whatever the hell you want. I even made my own loadouts similar to standard hero shooter characters.

It's a lot of fun. Just watch out for higher level players though.

Ass PC port. Way better on console, no option to mute mic in multiplayer, multiplayer lags frequently, even with people that live in the same damn neighborhood. A controller is pretty much mandatory, terrible optimization (horrid FPS drops) useless adventure mode, etc etc. Too much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Play this on XB1 or PS4 for a better experience, but even then the community is kinda dead, even popular youtubers don't play this ♥♥♥♥ anymore. AfroSenju pretty much dropped this for Persona 5 (a way better game). If you paid $60 you got played my boy, this game isn't worth much outside of the story (which is good, some fights are better than the anime) and the occasional laggy fight online.
