There are too many negative qualities for me to recommend it. This review may contain spoilers.

There are no auto-fire or mouse controls. Auto-fire at least is a must for shooters.

A type of enemy is far to tanky, making it almost impossible to kill and it shows up is huge numbers. This can lead to a no win situation where the player will die. Death means game over, so this is a game breaking flaw.

Color pics are unlocked by killing every enemy on certain stages. This is hard to do, and the only way to try again if the player fails is to go through the entire game again. If the player gets a message saying that it is unlocked for a girl it still will not count if the player dies.

One of the unlocked ships is so slow that it is useless. I have no idea why the developer put this ship in the game.

Powerups are random, so if the player is unlucky they won't have the upgrades needed to win.

And to to it off one of the menu options is asking for Steam ratings, which is tacky.

Why is there no mouse control on a PC game? Arrow key aim is very awkward. Enemies either die in one hit or are almost invincible damage sponges. Powerups are not that helpful due to how short they last. Stages 2 and 3 feels almost like playing stage 1 again: a featureless corridor that enemies appear in. I got to stage 3 and died due to damage sponge wall hugging enemies that shoot very fast moving lasers between them. The game up to this point was not fun, so I quit.

As far as i can tell the only way to actually get Two of the achievements is to cheat. Unless I am missing something fundamental it simply isn't possible to beat the game with a high enough score. or maybe I am wrong, but the gameplay is so boring that I have little desire to try. The score counts down, which feels like a punishment for playing longer, not a reward for doing good. The tutorial doesn't really explain much. Unlocking different dwarfs only changes they way the look. They all look very pixelated, making unlocking them a waste of time.

Cubic Castles is a 3D game that is only playable in top down view mode. There is no way to change to a first person view like Minecraft does by default. This makes it impossible to create tunnels, houses with roofs, etc. because my view is blocked. This is a severe limitation on what I would like to build. I have no idea why they thought that this would be a good game design choice. It's like going from a modern first person shooter with completely 3D levels to Doom 2 which can't support things like the ability to go over a bridge and under the same bridge.
