Citizen Sleeper 2 and its predecessor will forever hold a special place in my heart. Two games unflinching in their desire for you to connect to every empathetic layer of what makes you who you are, it cannot be overstated how well crafted the story and the impact the realisation of the steps it takes you through can have once it is over. It would be an injustice not to praise the art, which again is superb, as well as the utterly flawless sound design.

But if there was one thing this game gave me that I'll never lose, it's the pit of my stomach settling and the sense of endless content that comes with hearing the opening notes to the track Imagined Futures. Amos, you did something truly special, and even if this is never read, I feel relief that this message isn't kept hidden by choice.

A murky yet rich take on regret, love and guilt. Despite its flaws Banishers will be a game I will remember for many years through it's thoughtful, measured approach toward heart-wrenching loss and fathomless grief, although this story offers some respite through its journey it is profound sadness that guides this game, personally I found that it provides great comfort to the thoughts that circle my mind when reflecting loss.

I am hopeful looking forward to what this IP could bring, though I struggle to imagine it being able to explore a grief more exhaustive than this.

This game is outstanding, but only if you have the time to learn it.

This game can seem exceedingly punishing within the first 2/3 hours. Trust me when I say to persevere, through my play-through I realised this game balances all of it's gameplay loops through upgrading the tech tree, this is outside of it's stated linear Tech-Tree path (Yellow story objectives are 99% unavoidable and thus you should aim to complete any associated techs), upgrading other techs after completing story techs was the easiest way I could find into making the game bend to your will, aside from warping the difficulty through what you need on the Tech-Tree it's quite noticeable when playing that the chapters each have a period of rest where you can sort things out before committing to moving forward so make sure to utilise your saves well.

I struggled with the first 10 hours but have since sunk in another 27hr and cannot recommend the game enough, this game deserves a Positive/Very Positive rating but sadly it seems many are reviewing due to giving up and not necessarily giving it a fair shot and learning the intricacies of the game, my only negative point is that the game requires a bit of trial and error but then again, what good difficult colony sim doesn't?

A game so utterly focused on the clarity of its story and character progression that it'll leave you wishing all games of its ilk followed its footsteps in the snow. It's tabletop? Kind of. It's worth every second it demands? Absolutely. The only complaint you'll be left with is that there isn't more to bury yourself in, what a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gem this game is.
