Very relatable for when I take 40 benadryls and I see spiders crawling all over the walls while I hear the noises of the damned coming from around the corner and red colored masked men melt down from my ceiling and slap me mildly while looking like they came out of a CG in an RPGmaker horror game.

Steam needs a "Neutral" option, because that's what I would give this.

The balance in this game is... not good. My character will have 70 in speech or 50 in technology and 50 in lockpicking etc. and still fail at the most simple checks/actions constantly. It also does not tell you whether a check is RNG, Pre-rolled, or set at a specific value, and it seems to vary from check to check so you can't really tell why you failed. This might be a difficulty based thing, but I am gonna be honest this is just locking players out of options if they don't go grinding more than upping the difficulty.

Due to the balance mentioned in the previous paragraph, this game felt like a "save/load simulator" as another review I read before I bought the game put it. This is really disappointing to, because usually when I fail a check, don't have enough for a check, or similar in a game like this I just keep on going to make it more interesting, but I literally passed 1 check first try with a skill I dumped points into throughout 5-10 I've got so far relating to skills I have a good amount of points in.

The QOL in this game is worse than Fallout 1&2 somehow, which is beyond me. Entering areas makes you walk all the way through them again after the first time instead of having a starting point option. Characters """run""" around like elderly in a residential home who all have arthritis throughout their whole bodies and the combat speed fixed this but it's only for combat making the game basically require cheat engine to not waste your time. In fact if the movement was copied directly from F1/F2 (which still feels a little slow when you're running simply due to the size of areas) I would probably have ~60-80 minutes in this game. This becomes even worse in the world map where you're basically taking a stroll. The menus in this game feel a little clunky, more than normal in CRPG's, and I have no issue with CRPG menus normally, even in newer games. This doesn't bother me much but it might really annoy others.

The soundtrack (weird, I know but this game is trying to be a spiritual successor to F1/F2 so I am holding it up to the same standard) sounds like wet farts. F1/F2's soundtracks really set the mood for the area your in, and the primary thing which makes them good is it REALLY feels like the world is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dying.

The story is interesting and hasn't had bad plot holes like F1's Junktown so far so I'll give it that.

The Soviet aesthetic is neat but not great, most people who play this game will disagree though.

The combat is fairly mediocre, due to the same skill balancing issues as it had before. It just doesn't have the complexity of, again, Fallout 1 & 2's combat that would make it more enjoyable, since other than switching between burst and single fire or using melee, all the combat features are sort of useless due to how little of a difference they make. This doesn't actually bother me too much, since I love CRPG's for their storytelling, atmosphere, roleplaying, and worldbuilding aspects.

The random encounters seem really good if you can stomach some cringe (though they seem to be mostly pre-made so it might end up being boring on a second playthrough).

I also have no want to play this game. After playing 2 sessions of this game, I'm not thinking anything like "man I really want to play Atom again later at X time" or anything similar. When I played both Fallout 1 & 2 for the first times I was sucked in after the 2nd time I started playing.

That being said, it's still decent when things are actually happening and I don't feel like I'm doing hardcore sounding when I play the game so yeah. it's just not nearly as good as F1/F2. It didn't have to be as good as F1/F2 just from what I heard about it I thought it would be at least 3/4 as good.

Starbound 2 is another disappointing Chucklefish game but this time to spice things up they make it an Earthbound inspired RPG with mobile game combat and a story that sounds like it came out of the Google Docs drive of a 13 year old's story concepts. The only thing this game has going for it is the trailer and the art style in it (not the pixel art).

Fallout 76 is a CRPG where you can kill children. In fact, the main story revolves around you, the player, being Jared Fogle. Though in this alternate timeline, it is the year 1976 AD and instead of putting subway sandwiches in children's small holes in several ways, you are walking up to them with the bloody mess perk and creating small holes all over them with various tools such as "Glocks" and "Rusty Knife".

Micro-transactions. I've noticed that the devs read the reviews cause I looked at them before I got the game, if you are reading this, go ♥♥♥♥ yourselves for your scummy practices.

It is P2W. I read another review which is rated as one of the most helpful negative reviews, saying that the microtransactions are just QOL. This is technically true, but no this game is 100% a P2W mobile game unless you install cheat engine.

Things you can buy with the in-game microtransaction currency or just real money which are P2W:

- Ability to continue even though you died.
- Instant Towers, these can only be purchased with real money, they're also in a lootbox like system and are ridiculously slow to get any good ones unless you cough up real money. In fact, it's so slow that I used cheat engine out of curiosity to see how long it takes to get a good one, so I instantly gave myself 150 days worth of daily rewards and the only towers I got that went over 2 were a 0-2-3 bomb shooter and a 3-0-2 Ninja Monkey. The vast majority were 0-0-0's or 0-1-0's etc. I also only got 30 which is even more terrible.
- In-game non-microtransaction currency.
- A plethora of other power-ups that make the game waaaaay easier.
- Upgrades on the skill tree.

The core game itself is good but this is just really unacceptable for any game, if it was F2P I would be fine with skins and nothing else but my god this game sells for up to $10!

EDIT: After having played this game for longer, it also just gets kinda ♥♥♥♥. There are 3 or 4 different builds that are better than the rest, (there are hundreds due to the upgrade system's complexity) and there are 3 heroes (Sauda, Benjamin, and Obyn Greenfoot) which are infinitely better than the rest (there are 14 total heroes). Obyn Greenfoot is worse than the other two because their setup requires you to place down a specific type of tower which isn't as good as other towers. The only time those 3 or 4 different builds vary at all is on gimmick maps that are on the harder difficulties and they require barely any thought for the most part on what you should do after you've gotten unlocks on most of the towers. It boils down to "oh tack shooters are useless on this map so I won't place them" "tack shooters have a good spot on this map so I'll place 1 or 2" or "tack shooters are really good on this map so I'm gonna place tons of them" if I'm gonna be completely honest, the rest of the towers are barely affected by gimmicks. This is really funny to, because they obviously tried to make it so some maps make snipers monkeys unusable, but they pop so many balloons except moabs compared to other towers when they get an opportunity even if they can only shoot 10% of the map combined with the airdrop upgrade at least one is still needed. The worst part is, to not barely scrape by or just have a guaranteed loss depending on the map on harder difficulties (CHIMPS & impoppable not hard mode) you have to use one of those builds at least, and sometimes one of those heroes.
TL;DR: Do not buy, mobile game micro-transactions.
