I've been playing hundreds of hours since vanilla D2 back on battlenet. This game has come a VERY LONG WAY. As it stands now, there's a healthy amount of content to keep you busy for a while. As with most games, its much more enjoyable with friends, especially if you are trying to do endgame content like the raid. If you're new however, the companion app makes it pretty easy to find people trying to run the same raids and nightfalls as you so its not the end of the world if you don't have tons of people to play with right away. If you're new it can seem a bit overwhelming, so my recommendation is play as far as you can with the free version to learn the mechanics, then get the expansions once you know your way around.
