There is above all else one thing I hate in video games. When the stated design goals and the experience don't match up. If you want to encourage the player to shoot people, don't add a punishment mechanic for shooting too many people. If you want the player to figure out a puzzle, don't add tight time limits. If you want to encourage building, then for the love of all that is good and holy don't make the resource gathering for that building laborious.

I can think of maybe three games that have earned their praise with regards to pacifism. Spec Ops: The Line isn't one of them.
