Startling news this year out of Japan: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is not only possessed of a fun protagonist and a comprehensible storyline, but believable motivations from most if not all of the main characters and solid writing. A new combat system beats the pants off of traditional ATB, and even the sidequesting is fun enough to not be obtrusive or upsetting.

Ah, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The least interesting topic (space wizard samurai) in the least interesting fantasy canon (George Lucas' Impregnable Mucous). Add From Software-style "lol git gud scrub" mechanics where frequent death to overwhelming force deployed by enemies is the primary methodology the game has for engaging with the player and a story that is a yawnfest at best and a deliberate ticket to "hey do you remember that Spaceballs was the best Star Wars film?" at worst.

Terrible. Do not buy.

Immersive sim and roguelite suffer roadside collision, doctor has no recourse but to sew them together into horrifying abomination. turns out, horrifying abomination great fun at parties.

If you enjoy Earthbound and its ilk, this is a fantastic game. Be aware that it's difficult to play from an emotional standpoint.

Better than Doom Eternal, for the single reason that it fails to disappear up its own ass with its lore.
