I purchased the Deluxe edition to get access to the game a week early. The thing that excited me most about the game before launch was that it was touted to be Steam Deck Verified. I game exclusively on a deck these days, and I played Civ VI on the Steam Deck for a few dozen hours. With Civ VI, you had to create crazy custom mappings for your controls to make it playable. Civ VII just works out of the box (after selecting the official layout from the controller menu).

I see a lot of criticism of the UI, but I find it to work very well on deck, which was my primary priority for this game. It's not perfect, there are some issues where the terrain tool tip stays visible when other screens pop up. I assume these kinks will be ironed out over time.

Performance-wise, I've only played a handful of hours at this point, but my OG deck has no issues.

If you like the Civ series, and play on Steam Deck, I would recommend it even with some minor issues.
