Not a great remaster, but
- It's a fantastic JRPG
- Skill inheritance is an amazing QoL change
- They added voice acting that feels like it could have been in the original
- The updated translation is nice
- It's very nice having both Dante and Raidou available.

As far as the port is concerned
- 30 fps is painful
- I encountered some graphical glitches when I played (cuts to black after opening a chest, say)
- Really no graphical improvements as far as I can tell, aside from an upscale

If you want to play Nocturne, though, this is the best version.

I never wanted to play FFII. I was always put off by the weirdo leveling system. Having beaten it, I still don't like the leveling system, but I think the game is pretty fun. The dungeon design feels pretty good (especially for the era), save for the Empty Punishment Rooms. I especially enjoyed the last dungeon. This version is maybe a little easy because of the autosaves every room - that said I think I only wiped once in my blind playthrough anyway.

The pixel remaster graphics are lovely. I do think, say, the PSP version looks better, but this is trying to be faithful to the NES version. The CRT filter does help - I think they did a good job with it. The remastered OST is 10/10. Overall, I came in expecting an unenjoyable slog and was pleasantly surprised.

Worth it for the soundtrack alone. This version is based on the NES version, so no Dawn of Souls extra content, and the enemies don't look quite as nice as say the PSP version. I love the CRT filter. Overall though, an extremely solid, faithful remaster of the original.

It's really quite good. There's a bit of a learning curve, but it's easy to get the hang of piece by piece. The amount of content is quite staggering, as well. This is the sort of game that will keep a tinkerer occupied for quite a while. It really seems to reward innovation. All in all, don't let the price tag scare you. I'd say it's worth dropping the cash.
