Hot desert sand. A peculiar mountain far off in the horizon. A "shooting star" in broad daylight. A robed individual looks up at the sky. So begins Journey, one of the most renowned examples in favor of the "videogames can be art" argument. Anyone who dismisses Journey as a "walking simulator" or a "non-game" hasn't given it a fair shot. Their loss, I guess.

To say I like this game is understating the obvious. I own it on PlayStation 3, Steam and the Epic Games Store. I played the wonderful ABZÛ first and got Journey on the strength of that title, seeing as they share the same art director (Matt Nava) and music composer (Austin Wintory).

There's no praise I can say about Journey that hasn't been said countless times before since its release in 2012. I don't even pretend to understand the meaning or inherent symbolism of its story. What I can say is that everytime I play, even just for collecting achievements, I get sucked into the world. Judging by the nameless companions who have joined my journey over the years, I'm hardly the only one.
