I have played Teslagrad 1, and this game and that one are two totally different things. If you take the lore and the name out of the game, you'd have no idea that this game is a sequel to the other one (it's completely fine to play this one without the other one). I love Teslagrad 1 to death but I also absolutely loved this game on its own different way.

The first game already had great art but this one is just breathtaking. The beauty, the complexity, the animations, the smoothness, the designs, everything leaves me speechless. I care a lot about "how fun movement is" in a platformer and this one is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ speedruning material right of the bat. Teslgrad 1 already had a great movement but it was more like a "vertical based" fun movement, while this feels like a "360º based" fun movement and going around the map while combining all different powers and option movements feels so good, although this game needs the godlike movement unlike Teslagrad 1 because while that game is about "solving the puzzle", this game is about "nailing the movement". The lore here is lowkey super deep, ngl I didn't understand it all, but what I did understand was really interesting and it follows the same "Show don't tell" from the first game that made me love it. The map is really really big and it can be overwhelming, and having 81 scrolls to collect doesn't make it better, yet, it's really fun to explore every corner of the map and the amazing art always adds to the enjoyment, and after finding the 4 secret powers (which can be overwhelming to find) you unlock a secret map with all the scroll's locations so at least you can be sure about everything there is to be find instead of exploring every corner 5 times, and there is a super easy way to travel around the map so missing a scroll isn't such a big deal. I read some people saying it was a short game, I don't know what game they are reviewing. My files say that my first playthrough took me 15hs and my second one (already knowing where every power is and how each boss fight works) still took me 4 hours, altough Steam says I have 15.2hs at the moment of writing this, not sure what's with that.

If I had to say bad or not excellent things about the game, the boss fights are meh. It has 6 boss fights including the final boss and final final boss for the best ending. Those last two bosses are the best ones (the final final fight is really creative I must say), but the other fights feel easy, random and/or just not rewarding enough. The map also has issues, while exploring, some areas won't completely show as "explored" and will keep having black spaces, and some others will show holes or tiny spaces that seem like there is a room/path to find there. At some point the secret map with all scroll locations will make it clear if there is something else to be find, but until that, the idea of "there must be something else to find/do here" bugged me a lot. Lastly for the maps, some rooms really feel like there must be something else to do because they are so big/beautiful/imponent that it's hard to believe that the developers made such a great room only to do nothing with it. Funny enough, this bad/not excellent things about Teslgrad 2 could also be said about Teslagrad 1.

Overall, this game is stunningly good. Teslgrad 1 is in my top 5 favorite games ever. This game probably gets a place in my top 10. 9/10 would recommend and buy a Teslgrad 3 if that ever happens. If you can and you haven't yet, go give a hug to your dad.

This review also includes the Remastered version. I have played both individually, both NG and NG+, so I can confirm that writing the same review for both games is totally valid since they are the same game.

The game is awesome. I met it at AGDQ 2016 but for reasons I couldn't play it until now, and the game is as good as I remembered. Lots of smart and carefully crafted puzzles. The movement is so great and fun that lowkey makes me want to speedrun it. The story of the game is great (and I've played Teslagrad 2 so I know it gets deep later) but the best thing about it is how it's delivered, a perfec example of "Show don't tell". The art is amazing, and you can say that the remastered version is better at that, but this game's art is already great, and that comes from someone who isn't a big fan of the steam punk and old Europe style, but damn, the artists here know what they're doing. There are 36 scroll to collect, only 15 are needed to finish the game but you need the 36 for the best ending. Collecting all scroll isn't hard tbh, the hard part is to find them all. Some scrolls are really well hidden, and while it can be frustrating to find them, once you find them you realize that the location is actually smart and fair, they aren't random at all (like the Strawberries in Celeste) and it adds to the fun. The map is a tower and there is a simple way to go all the way up and down, which you'll need if you missed a scroll before the ending. I think the lenght of the game is good enough. I can finish the game in 2-3hs tops now that I know where everything is, but my first playthrough took me aprox 14-15hs in three days.

If I had to say bad or at least not excellent things of the game, the first two boss fights are kinda meh, I would say those are the lowest points of the game. The map is a big tower and at the beginning you explore the tower's entire base, but as you play the game and go up you realize that there are massive blank spaces never visites, so I felt it a little dissapointing. Also with the map, there are some rooms that makes you feel like there must be something else to do there, but just there isn't (I'm looking at you gigantic electric golden bull!). Funny enough, I could say the same "bad things" for Teslagrad 2.

Overall, I absolutely loved this game from beginning to end. It's now on my top 5 favorite games ever. 10/10 would recommend. Go give a hug to your dad.

TLDR: I thought this game a was an "educational religious game" for kids. I was wrong, it's actually good.

A little back story. I got this game for free like 7 years ago. The first thing I thought back then was "It must be an educational religious game, probably really dumb and simple, perfect for little kids". The second thing I thought was a reflexion on how capitalism and consumerism, and the fact that I accepted this game just because I had the chance (something that I won't elaborate on a Steam review, because meh). The last thing I thought was "I'll never play this".

Years passed, I didn't play it, but every time I wanted to start a new game, the joke on my mind was "Oh wait, I can't, I still have to play Save Jesus". Years later, after a few gaming disappointments, I wanted to play something simple and quick, without much of a challenge, something that I could finish on a sitting. Oh boy, I was wrong.

The actual review starts here. This game is actually really fun. The puzzles are challenging but super fair. Many times, I have been self-convinced that a level was impossible to pass just to get amazed with the solution. The physics are hard to master, which makes the game much more fun and smarter because the puzzle solution depends on precise timing to click on the boxes/TNT, the X/Y distance in between the actors (boxes, TNT, ball, ramps, Jesus, etc) when the interaction begins, the angle/speed of the ball and box, the angle/speed of the ball and box when bouncing on a wall, the slope of the floor, ramps angle, and some others. Some levels aren't too complicated, but some others are challenging and the solution can be super satisfying.

I only have two bad things about the game, which are the Holly Cow Ball SFX and the time traveler boss' dialogue lines. At some point I started taking my headphone off for those. I find them really annoying for some reason, but if that is the worst thing I have to say about this game, your probably got the idea of how good I think it is. I know some people will find the "Finish 50 levels with every ball" achievement tedious, I don't. If I can beat the level once, I can do it seven times, and if I can't do it seven times, it means I got lucky the first one and it shouldn't coun't. You don't even need to get all the starts for the 50 levels achievement, it's really not that bad.

Second TLDR: I'm sad this game is over and there are no mods, but with this game, the mods could be harder than Kaizo and Celeste mods so it's probably for the better. I'll always remember this game fondly.

I'm the kind of guy who "doesn't know how to have fun". Everything I play is something I can get competitive, like fighting games, or "hard games" with emphasis on frustration, like Getting Over It. I'm by no means the kind of guy who plays casual or party games, even less co-op games. Still, I've finished this game 3 times with different teams and I plan to finish it at least 3 more times in the next year. This game is just incredible to play over and over again, not only in solo mode like I usually do, it's also a blast to play with friends. There are so many different combinations/skills/interactions that never gets me tired.

Now, the gameplay is f*cking awesome, but not gonna lie the puzzle aspect is kinda bad IMO. The game tries to be cryptic and smart but some of the "clues" make no sense even after googling the answers. That's the weakest point by far, but the writting in general is actually very good. The story is interesting and makes a good job going along the adventure, the characters are unique and charistmatic and that apply to NPCs as well, the humor can be silly but it still makes me smile quite often, the music (listening to the OST while writting this) is on point, although I didn't appreciate this while playing the game.

Really loved this game, I'd buy a DLC and/or a sequel in a blink.

The game is great but a "free" PC game with online gameplay paywalled at 25 dollars? F*ck no. At most paywall the entire game behind that wall and include online with that price. I could understand if they paywall new characters (I think DLCs should be included if I already paid 25 bucks but ok, I can understand it at least) but this is just stupid.

I think I never gave a negative review. I'll gladly change this review into a positive one and talk about how good the game is if they revert this, because the game is indeed good, but this, doing things this way, it feels like they are sh*tting on us.

Let me start with this: This ISN'T a rage game, it's a frustration game. If you rage for falling down, it's as stupid as raging for getting shot in a shooter. This is a climbing game, unless you're perfect, and you clearly aren't, you'll fall down. A rage game could be games like I Wanna Be The Boshy, games that suddenly kill you with lots of unexpected traps you couldn't predict, games that change in ways you have no way to know. This game is about a mountain, and the mountain never changes, it is always what it is and nothing else. The mountain isn't there to make you angry, it's there to make you feel frustrated by your inability to overcome an obstacle who's doing nothing to get in your way, yet you can beat it.

Now, with that said, if you enjoy beating the crap out of hard games that most people didn't finish because the frustration got the worst of them and not only you enjoy these games but you also like to feel superior to all of those people, you'll definitely love this game. That's your hook to buy it, once you play it, everything inside the game is there to give you a wonderful experience. The "philosophy" in this game is something that won't get old in the next 20-30 years.

10/10 I can't recommend enough.

A really good Platform Fighting Game if you aren´t expecting a Smash clone, Brawlhalla is a PFG as the Smash games but it is a totally different game by itself
