I did not expect to like this game as much as I did. sure the enemies and tasks are repetitive, and don't get me started on how annoying to deal with the new enemies are (snake lady, and the flying cape dude with scythes) but the ambiance is top notch, I even enjoyed the collectathon aspect (particularly the ghost pictures quest, with all the small clues on how to find the places) and that is something I have not enjoyed at all in other games.

the small slice of Tokyo is wonderfully realized and the story is touching without being corny. this game is a must have experience.

good remake of the OG game, mostly ok but the QTE's and new evasion mechanics kinda suck. other than that, pretty solid way to get the origin story

oh and plays GREAT on the SteamDeck

awesome retro shooter, nails the feeling of running around as a space marine. the music is 3/5 tho, just serviceable, needs more of a 40k vibe, as they are the songs are not bad but rather generic metal riffts.

this is a very underrated game! it feels quite intense for a card game and the power gains during each run is usually satisfying,

the graphics are nothing to write home about but the artstyle is quite competent and even pleasing sometimes. there's a problem with visual clarity when one too many units are on the same floor, sometimes it is hard to tell where's what.

the sound bits are interesting and add some personality to each faction but the music is just... there, it does nothing for me but it is not offensive to listen to.
all in all this is definitely a hidden gem!

let's make one thing clear, it is NOT at the same level as to say.. Grim Dawn, but the loot system is interesting and the enemy variety keeps it from becoming stale from the get go.

the graphics are also hit and miss, there's some impressive and fun destruction happening when it hits the fan and the armors, weapons and enemies have a pleasant amount of detail but some of the environments look... unfinished (looking at you repeating tiles in the higher levels of the hive cities) also, the repetition of envs sets in pretty early.

the performance of the game is also a pain point, no reason why a game with the detail level could have such mediocre performance. it is not terrible, but neocore tech stack needs a review.

Lorewise... it its choke full of correct WH40K references and flavor. the power level of the Inquisitor tho... not even the strongest, most powerful lords of the inquisiton have the destructive skills that this dude has, he is low key chapter master power level at the start of the game and scales up to almost primarch level down the road, which is... well silly, but makes for fun gameplay.

TLDR: some pain points but the good outweighs the bad. thumbs up.

Even tho I love the game and will probably be my most played for the foreseeable future, I cannot recommend this game. it is janky, and most important of all: TRASHY FREE TO PLAY LIKE MICROTRANSACTIONS EVERYWHERE, even the items that are not for cash are on a timed rotation (predatory psychological games attempting to trigger FOMO on the playerbase), and so are the missions, this all seems to be an attempt to hide how BAREBONES the map offering and variety is.

you had a good game in your hands FatShark, and you destroyed it. the basis for a great, even GOTY game is there... and you royally ♥♥♥♥♥ it up out of GREED and laziness.

instead of getting the best WH40K game out there, I am left with a mediocre game that I happen to like, despite its myriad attempts to make me hate it.

UPDATE LATE NOV 2023: its still glitchy and greedy af but at least there's more content now.

its Janky af and the side missions are repetitve (but a fast way to upgrade your character), somehow still ends up working out. a quick tip: use those wheel skills, they're the difference between getting chomped or not.

the good:
good customization on vehicles
pretty good sense of speed
decent police pursuit ai
game has some graphics high points.

the bad:
the music is $h!tty! so bad, miles behind the classic NFS soundtracks
the map is bland and sometimes even boring (especially during daylight)
