I was thinking about this before I read your article and I can see some pros and cons each way. There are more rounds than matches, so more data, so good. However, most games end 16-14 or similar, rather than 16-0 or similar... so if its based on rounds then changes overwhelmingly come from only a few games, which would be bad. I also note that the in game stats reports the number of rounds you've won, and that instantly made me wonder why they reported that? I suspect it is an easy number to report because they have it, and having seen that little effort is put into in game stats this immediately made me think it must be that rounds are something they use in matchmaking.

Just some thoughts, unfortunately no proof. I'll add you, would be very happy to discuss further!

I read your guide on GS:GO matchmaking. Really good. People always talk about how K/D ratio or some other thing is important to ranking up, but knowing a *little* about matchmaking I know this is extremely unlikely. My own thoughts led me to believe it was either match results or round results so was really happy to see that is what you wrote!

I have a comment. You conclude it is round results most likely based on promotions that occurred on draws or losses? It would also be possible for the promotion mechanic to use a moving average and therefore even if it were based on match outcomes a loss or draw could still lead to a promotion. Therefore we can't be sure if it is rounds or matches that are used?
