With the new update, note that performance is VERY MUCH improved. Like, drastically. As the patch notes say, they pulled out some magic and just... better optimized the game. The visuals ARE also improved. Lighting goes a long way, huh?

That being the case, I highly recommend trying this game out. Its like Skyrim, if Skyrim were... better. In almost every way.

However, keep in mind, this game is still in EA. It IS being worked on (heavily, though updates are sporadic), but be warned: Crashes, bugs and balancing will be a bit of an issue. For instance, I just shot a deer, and it did the Skyrim VATS thing? Arrow hit, it went to change the camera back to first person, aaand... crashed.

So just be aware of what you're getting yourself into. But i do recommend trying it.

Well, I've never played it, but its letting me review it anyway. Instead of making a good video game, Overlord 3, they made... a diablo clone. Cool. Thanks Codemasters.

The best game ever made... But only with this mod.

Okay, so base game bannerlord is amazing. Its a fantastic successor to Warband, itself still a solid game today, though its a struggle to get working on modern hardware. Although it lacks certain features i'd love to see in it from Warband, Bannerlord does a LOT, and continues to improve as the years go on.

First of all, I appreciate the effort of putting in voice-over in certain small places, though honestly the game could easily do without it. Secondly, the main story of the game sure is there. It exists. That's all I have to say about it, as its really just a way to give the player an idea of where to start and what to do. If you understand how the game works, you can just play Sandbox and get the same, if even better, experience.

The game is great, genuinely. I wouldn't say it captivates me at all times, and its the only game i'd ever want to play, but... it got close, seeing from my several hundred hours in it. Combat is pretty fun, though it can be very frustrating at difficult odds. But succeeding is that much more gratifying when you can manage to pull it off. Though it is easily cheesed, with proper skills, both for your character and your own personal. My only real gripe is that equipment makes too -much- of a difference of who wins and who loses any given battle. I recognize that with armor comes an advantage, but I'd like to see tactical gameplay having a bit more of a bite than just running head on toward a band of Looters and slaughtering them all easily with a band of four or five knightly fellows.

I'd like to see more building on what this most recent patch offers, being able to command your troops to attack specific formations, expansion specifically in the form of flanking and the like. I think nerfing equipment just a smidge would be very good, if tactics were also brought into a more make-or-break role. If you have ten horsemen and ride into a crowd of twenty five bandits, well... That's kind of stupid. To be clear, there are elements of this idea already present in the game. You CAN already do things like this, its just a bit janky to pull it off.

I'd like to also have stealth being an aspect of the gameplay in more ways than a simply percent chance to enter a settlement. For one, the enemy AI in battles always knows the location of you and your troops, and vice versa. I could definitely see it being frustrating if the enemy could hide from you, but in the case of you getting accosted by a massive band of looters whilst you are on your own, it would be nice to be able to avoid them and slink away from battle, as they find an empty battlefield and they have to spread out to try and find you. You can sacrifice men to do this in a text prompt, but when youre just by yourself, say on your way from being a prisoner to gain some troops, and you accidentally run smack into a gang of forest bandits, well... I'm on a horse... I could outrun them if I flee. But once I exit that battle's boundary, the options are to fight, or surrender. There's no possibility of fleeing once you are caught. This is a bit of a disappointment to me. But that's also not the point of the game, I suppose. The point is to have grand battles and work your way up to being emperor of a vast state, or to destroy the current empire. The point IS battle, so offering ways to circumvent battle altogether, without paying substantial sums of denars or goods, while it would be neat for me, that would be antithetical to the game's goal. Then again, you can also be a trader, caring little for the politics of any particular state, just running a trading caravan across Calradia, so... Why not a swashbuckling rogue or brigand? Aspects of this are included, but not so much in the slinkink and sleuthing, just... medieval-style thuggery.

All of this being said, Bannerlord is fantastic. Its given me hundreds of hours of entertainment. But more recently, I've discovered the true Holy Grail (trust me, using that analogy is very funny) of video games. For this game, there is a mod called The Old Realms, a total conversion mod that transforms the Calradic imperial era into the Age of Sigmar of Warhammer. There's many features still on the way, but what they have already is genuinely amazing. Its still a heavy work in progress, but trust me, if they presented the mod as finished, it would take some digging to be able to tell.

The Old Realms takes Bannerlord and expands it to truly epic, fantastical proportions, with sorcery in addition to swords, and fantasy, and not just fiction. Ever want to be a necromancer, with a thousand undead lackies at your command? You can do that. Ever want to be a holy Knight Errant, on a quest to recieve the favor of The Lady of the Lake by slaying thousands and thousands of Chaos warriors? You can do that, too. How about a vampire lord, seeking to dominate the rest of the Empire and overthrow the Von Carsteins? Yep, that too. You can also still just be a trader. There are random encounters, not included in Bannerlord, its own soundtrack, towns, cities, models, systems of magic- Name a fantasy thing. It probably has it either included or on the horizon.

The Old Realms makes Bannerlord worth at least double the asking price, alone. Now THAT'S a game.

Poorly optimized, unfortunately. Seems cool though, but its difficult to play with all the jittering and drops in FPS, even on the lowest settings. I can play plenty of more intensive games, so its not like my rig is just insufficient for it, it just doesnt seem very well optimized.

The playerbase is absolute donkey a$$ but if you can find a good server with decent people, its a really fun game. I personally play on a PvE server with some very nice people! I dont recommend playing, it took me 2 years to find a good server, but if you're gonna, dont give up after seeing the majority of absolute sh1t people (I have had the misfortune of meeting literal skinhead fascists in multiple servers) permeating the game's playerbase. There's a good server out there for you.

I gotta say: This isnt a very good game. It was made to be played using a controller, and thus mouse and keyboard controls are... well, let's just say "clunky" is giving it too much credit. Physics are very nice, some of the best i've seen, even from modern games....... when stuff isnt clipping inside of the character. Kiiinda ruins the impact of a dramatic cutscene when Gandohar's cape is clipping out of his chest.... But still! They experimented with some physics engine stuff and did a very okay job! My hair loopies flop around, 10/10.

But combat is eeeh... its hard to say its worse than the last game. Its different but... i cant say its any better or worse than TW:EE.

They removed item combination, and the writing isnt in "PRITHEE THEE PRAY TELL ME FORSOOTH???" speech, so immediately the charm of the first game is just friggin gone.

The writing of the games was never the selling point, i dont think. It's an adventure game more than it is an actual roleplaying game. The point is to explore and do quests. The main story is there, but its not really supposed to be the good bit, i dont think. But this game falls short. You cannot pick a direction and just GO like you could in TW:EE, and that's honestly really unfortunate. It's the successor to an adventure game, but it has very little actual adventure and mostly a mindless slog from A to B.

Playing this game made me wish it were an MMO. Because with all the clunky systems, odd controls and functional but kinda bad interfaces, i found myself thinking how great it would be if there were other people, doing other quests, going other places.

It feels like an MMO, and it could even be a good one, i would say. Just, they would need to fix some odd subtitle errors, physics bugs, completely remove the stupid horse minigame (i'd even accept no horses at all, because honestly it might as well not be there for what annoying pieces of hairy garbage they are, and how crappy their collisions are) aaand fix jumping to be less floaty.

Anyways... this game kinda sucks. But its good? Like its not worse than doing nothing, its just.... kinda bad. They tried to do a lot of things they probably hadnt tried before, and were trying to experiment. To make something unique in a slurry of slop called the gaming industry. But honestly, they prooobably should have kept to some of the classic TW:EE mechanics.

Heck, even the world is a little disappointing for me. Like, sheesh, deserts and savannas are cool and all, but gosh, what i wouldnt give for a little color... and i know theres colorful places later, just.... im 6 hours into my PC playthrough at time of writing, and im just missing Thalmont and Cathalon, yknow?

Anyways, long story short, and to end my rambling stream of consciousness, i would recommend this game if its on sale, and you've played and enjoyed the first game.

I would enjoy this game more if the controls were better and if there were more character customization options, such as gender, but that ones more personal preference than anything else.

This is a really good game.

The story is great, the gameplay is fun, there's really not much to say, its just great.

But if you're looking to play Red Dead Online? Don't bother. They pulled support years ago, and apparently still haven't fixed a game-breaking bug where nothing spawns. No NPCs, no Animals, nothing, if you're connected to a lobby with more than just yourself.

You literally have to force the game to put you in a solo lobby and add a rule to your firewall to block it from adding you into one with another player in order to get it to spawn things. Otherwise, the world is more dead than WoW Classic.
