I'd like to echo what others have said. I was disappointed until I understood the game, now that I do, it's always a great time. I think with some more time in the oven this is going to be a go to game for me to let off steam without booting a multiplayer.
Breaker has the visual charm of it's predecessors, yet is brutal and uncompromising in a way that feels authentically Heart Machine. If you guys are reading this, thanks once more for making another game I've ended up falling deep for, you guys continue to be a favourite of mine, and I can't wait to play more of this.

I didn't expect to like this game. It reminds me of back when Apex Legends dropped, in that it's a game that plays mechanically absurdly well out of the gate, and rewards you for the time you invest, because they've tuned it right, and you feel yourself getting more and more op over time. The shop is expensive, but the stuff you want can be crafted for free, and in some ways faster than other games.

I can see this becoming a reliable casual fallback when I just want to relax and play for a while without thinking too hard, happy to recommend!

I played 3k+ hrs casually of CSGO/CS2 before giving this a go, and surprisingly it was a breeze to get used too. Lots of parallels to the other games, feels like they've taken CSGO and mashed it with HL2, which I guess it technically is. Not found a community server I didn't like yet, and having a blast all the same. Also a bonus is this runs on pretty much every PC I've tried, even without a dedicated GPU, which means I can frag my mates on lunch breaks, great!

I wish I didn't feel this way, but the game is so rough on newcomers. I've found myself constantly matched against pro's and veterans of previous games, which means the amount of times I get an endorphin hit are fleeting making the game terribly boring and frustrating. I've got 3k hrs in CSGO, and I've managed to reach LEM ran before, so I'm not frustrated due to not being able to hold my own in a shooting fight. The game has established legacy skills that need to be learnt, and people new to the game need a lot longer to get used to them before going up against people who've been playing tribes for 10+ years.

If the game got a lot more players, then maybe it'd be different, but that won't happen without a better marketing budget, and I doubt that will happen. So I'm going to take the time I've had for my 15 bucks and move on. Not recommended.

I used to love Overwatch, played since the beginning of first game, and unlocked pretty much every cosmetic I could. Back then I was happy to give them money, because the stuff they did was genuinely fun and exciting. But with Overwatch 2, they took something I loved, pretended it would be even better, then skinned it alive, and poured as much frustrating monetisation tactics as they could down it's throat.

From time to time I log in to see if things have changed, only to find it got worse. This month? I have to fight for survival against a tank hero I don't own, because learning him would require a financial investment I'm not sure will be worth it.

Blizzard you've turned a happily paying loyal customer into someone who will from now on actively discourage others from giving your games the time of day, congratulations.

Saw this on Twitter and thought I'd check it out as it gave me Portal vibes. The UI needs a polish, but the actual game loop is solid. If the full game is a lot of this, with perhaps a story payoff at the end, bit more to explore through the puzzle solving (the path can be very linear, but I'm just choking that up to it being a prologue), then this is something I'll look forward to picking up when the full game arrives.

The only game I can get owned on and not feel mad. Absolutely love the game. The movement, the gun play, the sounds (getting a squad wipe is super visceral thanks to the audio queues). Some people give this game jib for bugs, but that's always gonna happen with these sorts of games. Well worth it if you like solid fps mechanics.

Well done Bethesda, you've killed it. 10 min wait times in EU makes this game dead. If you needed more players you should have given us the ability to create mods for it, not buckled it down with a more convoluted monitization system. This game used to be ok, now it's not fun, and not worth installing, please avoid.

Review before the Dec 2018 update:

Finally they've fixed the bloody game, and it feels phenomenal. See everything fits together correctly now, mechanical skill, movement mastery and gamesense are rewarded individually like they should be (most games like overwatch mess this up terribly). You don't necessarily have to have all three, but you can tell those who have one or more, and it's impressive when you see it, whats more with practice you can legitimately become as good without worrying about cheaters. This major point helps promotes respect even out of ranked modes because everyone appreciates the hard work people put into those talents.

The biggest turn off's originally for me were that they didn't give us the ability to mod, and there was a paywall for certain things that I didn't agree with. More recently I came back to the game to see that they've started to add some of the best mods as official modes (instagib, ctf), which put my mind at ease as it shows they know how important they were back in the day. Plus they've tweaked the loot system so the only thing you'd really ever want to pay for is the champions pack. Literally everything in the game can be earnt for free, and yet the game is free as well, so I have a hard time arguing that they are screwing us over some how.

If you don't have this game in your library, you are missing out on one of the best free FPS games available this year. Ignore that it says early access, at quake con they announced the official lanuch and that it'd be free forever, so grab your copy and get fragging!

First to those who are experiencing lag or "netcode" issues, make sure that you check the server selector in the bottom right of the main menu. Past 100ms ping is considered a skill check even for players of previous quake games. Yes it's a bit of a bug at the moment, but it's obvious and easily fixed, so I don't see it as a valid reason to give a negative review (shame on those who did). If you can't handle a bit of lag, get out of the fire... wimps :)

I can't believe how much my opinion changed about this game. Originally I was frustrated because I felt like I paid for something I didn't get, so I gave it a bad review. To be fair at the time Hello Games did not have a track record of fixing things, so I feel back then the review was accurate of my opinion.

I've only spend an additional hour so far after I reviewed the game, but I can already tell the game is vastly better than it originally was. The one hour I spent was one of the more fun play sessions I've had in a while, with far more to do, and a more polished initial mission to get through.

I do recommend this now, and will be putting more hours onto the game in the future.

Warning, I heavily compare this with DayZ because to me they are sides of the same coin.

13 hours in and after being killed five times by griefers I finally managed to get a spawn on a server that fitted my play style. If you asked me a few hours ago weather it was worth it, I would have said it probably is but the nasty players are as rampant as they are in DayZ and it does my head in. But after persisting, not getting killed for a long period, and not letting them get me down the game finally started to shine.

This game has now elevated itself over others for me because of these reasons; the crafting system is emmensely rewarding, as long as you can find a camp and figure out your area you'll flourish (I haven't needed to buy a drop at all yet). There is a 50% chance you'll bump into friendly players unlike the 90% chance in DayZ. Zombies obay the laws of physics! no walking through walls, and you always stand a chance as long as they don't stack. And finally although it may not have DayZ quality graphics, they are by far adequate for a modern game and for once the same building model isn't used over and over!

If you are tossing a coin between this Rust and DayZ, then I'd pick this in a heartbeat, can't wait for it to get a full release :)
