In the previews, "Warhammer 40k: Boltgun" just looked interesting. Due to my strong connection to boomer shooters, I've decided to give this a go.

What I did not expect though: How much I'd grow to like it. This is one excellent entry into the franchise! I'm currently playing on Hard, but I might give Exterminatus a try in the future.

Positives:
- It's a semi-sequel to "Space Marine" and that alone is enough to count it as a positive.
- The sound design! Oh, man, it's oh so satisfying at every end. The hollow metal sound a shell makes when it hits the ground, the meaty explosions when you decimate enemies, the weapons discharging, the electronic whispers of your Servo Skull - absolute music to my ears! Probably the biggest positive I can give.
- Very smooth controls that give you all the momentum and speed you'll ever need.
- Graphics are pretty detailed to that old school aesthetic. Bonus points for having enemies as sprites.
- Having a taunt button adds to the overall experience playing as a sophisticated, highly genetically altered killing machine in the name of the Emperor.

Neutral:
- The music itself is just ok.
- Finding Secrets is good, but often they're not really that hidden.

Negatives:
- The boss design ranges from questionable to downright irritating.
- Losing all your weapons between overarching chapters? Come on...

Though, overall, this is (so far) the best boomer shooter I've played this year! No doubt one of the best Warhammer 40k games, too. A really good time, especially when you're into this franchise. Yet, it's also disconnected enough, that beginners can find something worthwhile.
