Beautiful and plays wonderfully. 10/10 for me, and the only qualms I have pale in comparison to the many great things this game offers. Story, cutscenes, combat, you name it.

If you're a fan of Dark Souls, Final Fantasy 10, Persona, and a dash of Pacific Rim, don't dismiss this gem simply because of its French setting. Rarely do I feel like these days a story is enhanced or complemented by this artistic style and they pulled it off.

I 100% cleared this game after 63 hours, completed every Act on expert difficulty. Mouse and keyboard, and I have seen people recommend controllers instead. If you don't have one or prefer m&k, fret not, it'll work just fine. I will mention that those using a mouse may see the dialogue choices be a little goofy or inconsistent in how it works sometimes, but with a little patience it is a non-issue.

One of my all-time favorites RPGs.
If you want classic leveling from doing quests, killing monsters, and crafting things, then Bethesda has you covered.
If you want a post-apocalyptic experience with dark humor and peerless environment storytelling, then Fallout is the series.
9.9/10 for me, only had to knock a little off because some achievements to reach 100% steam completion are ridiculously grindy.

Early Access Review
+Certainly a fun game! Not particularly difficult once you lose the first few times and figure out what's what. Just keep track of your resources regularly, keep yourself in the positive for intake every time you expand and do so safely. I figured out after getting wiped out in the night cycle very early on the first few attempts how to basically cheese the fights and made it trivial. Once you know how to do something easily, it's hard to keep the challenge the rest of the way through. After that, I simply kept it up and expanded to the borders of the map with virtually no problems.

-The only real minor issue I've had is a worker that gets stuck on the corner of a building and I have to manually wiggle them out and re-assign them to whatever they had before, but that was only two or three times in a 15-day game.

+Graphics are very nice to look at, I do wish that some laborers had animations or tasks to do (looking at you, tavern keepers).

-Occasionally a weird bottomless pit will spawn on the map that's just a small hole in the ground. Nothing falls in or anything, just jarring in an otherwise clean and flat landscape. Speaking of the environment, the cliffs are an odd place to be because enemies can walk on the absolute edge of them to sneak around walls and buildings.

-/+Some buildings aren't clear enough in their text what they provide. I put off building churches because I thought they would require exorbitant prices to revive your fallen army, but no, they conveniently and steadily revive about 50 a day (or more) passively. Pleasant surprise, but I didn't know that going in.

-Strange that enemy warriors can enter your towers and if you have archers stationed on top, they will happily allow the enemy to clear them out. Enemy units that carry siege weapons also can't be directly targeted sometimes. I know they can be killed, I watch them do it automatically, but if I target the four guys carrying a battering ram manually then my archers think I'm trying to attack the much heftier siege weapon.

-/+ Would like to see more decoration options, perhaps one of the first content updates. The concrete ground that spawns around buildings is really spotty, especially once you start expanding rapidly and everything is spaced apart. Would like to build roads, perhaps they can increase the movement speed of units.

-/+ The options for melee units feel very arbitrary to me. Why not just bulk up with a bunch of high hp soldiers on the ground and have near a hundred archers on the walls rain death from the heavens? And then building an archery range has only one unit available. I imagine there will be more choices in the future, but at this moment in time they could be merged together if you ask me. It would be really cool to see a wizard's tower or academy of magic to have casters rain fireballs from the ramparts.

+Overall, I'm happy with the game. Already got my money's worth, technically, but I'll be keeping an eye on updates because I would absolutely love to see it fleshed out with more content.

The first real game that got me into RPGs, and has held such a high standard since. So many amazing quotes that I continue to say to this day (to the confusion of coworkers), a wonderful open world for its time. I have hundreds more hours on the console where I first played it, but make no mistake the money was well worth it.

I will try to tackle some of the major talk points from my own opinion and perspective.

Worried about UPlay being a requirement? Don't be! Launching from Steam still works perfectly well, you will not need to log in to a separate launcher.

Ubisoft's servers are actually fairly stable (the majority of the time). Matchmaking can be almost instantaneous or it can take a few minutes. Fortunately, the matches themselves don't even last half an hour, and sticking around from one match to another can be quick as you have more people in your squad. Matchmaking errors can happen from time to time, but there is very little hassle to throw yourself and your squad right back in.

The community is like most: The loud, obnoxious sorts will be obvious, though there are many that enjoy the communications and tactical aspect over your rush-and-teabag sorts.

The game *is* balanced, you just have to learn how to deal with specific Operators, learn your weapons, positions, and devices, and most importantly, listen! The game has many audio and visual clues for intruders or campers. Hackers have a very small presence, but the new implementation of a report system is actually a testament to the evolution of the programmers' decisions that improve the game.
