I'm playing a centaur with five arms and a scorpion tail. I got my axes stolen by infectious black slime in the rainbow jungles, helped a lesbian deer couple reunite through sheer dumb luck, and have eaten more meals made of rusty bullet casings and powdered bones than I can count.

This game is an experience like no other in a world that lives outside your own narrative. This is just one story of thousands on the surface of Qud. Your build options are practically endless, featuring an array of strange weapons and abilities - become a mutant, or modify your body into the perfect psychic killing machine. Befriend a sentient chair. Trade with sapient cave bear engineers. Chase worms through the salty desert dunes. There's a huge amount of content to engage with, and if you're ever lost, just start walking; eventually, you'll hit something of interest. Maybe you'll even find a flaming sword or vial of condensed static to loot.

I am immensely proud of the developers for making this game; it's truly unique, challenging, and most importantly, absurdly fun. Even when I'm bad at it.

This might be my game of the year. I'm horribly attached to my beasties and the beastieball system is the perfect balance of easy to learn and hard to master. Don't let the EA label put you off - it's feature complete, with a full story and a challenging post-game (so I've heard), AND they're planning to add more content in the future. Well worth the price and time.

Slow, almost alpha-esque. I've played this a few times over the last year. They keep reworking models, but the models look fine, and adding more species to play as won't fix the fact that there's very little in the way of gameplay besides flying around and doing fetch quests.

The dev team are embarrassingly juvenile when faced with criticism. They create false allies of theirs that say their actions are okay and claim that our criticisms are invalid because we're "being rude". This is not how a studio should behave, and I'm greatly disappointed in them. They've even taken to blocking people they deem "trolls", despite them being real people with real, valid concerns about the game, speaking to the team firmly but politely.

Other people have said it more eloquently than me but the pure joy I get from just bouncing around as a cat and finding secrets is truly unparalleled

You are one person trying to survive, and so is everyone around you, despite the rotting systems of hardware and governance that dictate your fates. I think that's what I like most about this game. So many RPGs are about one guy who goes on to save the world, and a couple of them flip this on its head by making it an insular world with small worries. Citizen Sleeper is a world that feels far more like our own, where there are greater things at stake, but we also just have to take each day as it comes. It's a quiet and almost meditative experience when you play.

I don't know how to review this but let's just say I paid full price for it and have never regretted it. One of the best games I own.
