Difficile, frenetico, punitivo, meraviglioso.
Risk of Rain è morto, lunga vita a Risk of Rain Returns!

Early Access Review
Before I start telling you about the game I must say that english is not my native language: I'm Italian, so if you see some eldritch horrors/mistakes in this review, please don't burn me on a pyre, for I truly didn't wish to summon those devils/demons that came out of my grammar/syntax horrors. Now let's proceed :)

Let me put this bluntly. I think this is one of the gretest early access games I have ever played. Does this makes it immune to problemes or criticism? Absolutely not, but I don't want to be too rough, since I'm noticing that the devs are working really hard on this :)

This early access has it all: an overall nice character creator (with a waifu creator on the side that made me confused at first but left me satisfied once I knew why it was needed) an engaging story, interesting npcs (and even more interesting companions), a combat system that I truly enjoyed and the most precious thing of them all: this game lets you think outside of the box from time to time; hells, it even encourages you to do so. All of this can be yours if you are able to bear some graphig glitches, some bugs and some things that just don't make any sense (looking at you, cloud of haste that lets the player make infinite standard actions).

I wish to tell that i played something like 43 hours on a SINGLE character and that is my only saved game at the moment, so I couldn't try every option the game could offer (but the game left me with a lot of curiosity, so you can bet your ass I will explore everything I can). I tried Multiplayer with a friend but I honestly don't know very much about it, since we only played through the introduction section without trying all that came to our mind... But damn, this game could be an astonishing experience if played together with 3 friends!

The game makes you create your own character and has an honest selection of races and classes options. I made a human rogue, so the world was mine to lockpick and pickpocket! I really enjoyed the short rest and long rest mechanics, the interaction with your companions during long rests (why won't you love me, Shadowheart? I know you are a softie deep down inside ç_ç) and the fact that thos companions react to the decisions you make, approving or disapproving them. This made my social anxiety killing me, but I think it makes your playthrough unique and very fun!

Now, for the criticisms!
I had some issues with the graphics (especially the first couple of days after release, but the devs released some patches so now everything runs much more smoothly), maybe because my GTX960 and my i5 3330 are a bit old for this title... The game automatic detect system says I can play on ultra settings, but I found out that running on high (or even medium in the bigger areas) is optimal and doesn't make the game freeze too much, making it playable and visually enjoyable at the same time. I mean, it's an early access, I truly can't complain that much about the graphics :)
I think this game requires some time and some patience to be fully enjoyed (at the current state of course). I don't think you can just jump into your game for 20 minutes and expect to have the time of your life: the loading screens can take a while, the AI decision making could be a little slow and buggy and, more importantly, you could find yourself fighting more with the camera system than with monsters...

So, in conclusion of this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ review, would I recommend this early access? Yes.
As you may have noticed, this isn't a review about mechanics, technical stuff or about what the game lets you or doesn't let you do, but a review about what my experience was, about the fun I had and about the things i enojoyed most or made me turn up my nose.
I had fun, I felt the immersion, I enjoyed the puzzles and the riddles and I did't popped too many blood vessles because of bugs, glitches and misclicks caused by the camera :)
Go play it, the boys at Larian are working hard on this, and knowing that this is just a third af the complete game makes me hyped as hell.
