I couldn't even begin to count the hundreds of hours that I put into 1994's Xcom:Ufo Defense. I played it as recently as last year for a few weeks. How many video games can you say that you play almost 20 years later?

So it was with trepidation that I approached this remake. Could it live up to the classic?

Yes.

It can and it does. While it probably won't have the amazing shelf life of the original, it does everything right. The gameplay feels very similar, keeping important elements of the original game while ditching unneeded ones like clunky inventory management.

Be prepared to feel a real sense of choice and loss, as there's just almost no way to beat the game without losing troops or funding countries on any but the easiest difficulty. While this might seem like a detraction, it's actually one of the things that lends a sense of urgency to the game. The clock is ticking, the world is at stake, do you take the time to capture aliens or kill them? Do you spend money on more fighter craft or build a research lab?

10/10 is what I give this game. Seriously, other than the multiplayer which simply feels 'tacked on' for no reason, this game couldn't get any better. I would have given it 9/10 due to some graphic bugs when it was first released, most notably inside certain alien craft, but a recent patch fixed it.

This game is a must buy.
