Ich dachte es sieht nett aus...
Ich habs gekauft...
34 Minuten gespielt und fand jeden einzelnen meiner 4 Versuche furchtbar öde.
Landschaft ist hässlich auf "absolut alles max"
Steuerung ist bestenfalls amateurhaft schlecht
Soundeffekte sind mies
Spiel macht null Sinn

The developers have released an update which made me come back and try once again and boy was i not prepared for how much i would enjoy the ride this time.

So all my old problems pretty much fixed (apart from some weird font glitches while UI scaling in 4k). Other than that...wow, good job devs.

+ The Ship building got much more convenient now
+ Economy is now based on demand which you can influence by building or blowing up stuff...yay
+ Very immersive since its easier to grasp now
- Ship Commands still a bit bare bones and Ship captains are sometimes dumb as bricks

Overally: if you are not afraid of early access, this one got very decent now.

Interessting idea so far, but since it is for me in 4k not playable because of a UI Scaling issue, and in Full HD textures and blocks look sometimes very bad...

And because the tutorial comepletey put me off i will for now stay away from the game... but thats just me and my impatience. It shows certainly potential and i will most likely come back and try again, but for now its refund time and i cannot yet recommend it if :

You have a 4k Screen (bugged)

Or if you like tutorials to help you and work out well and not be a boring obstacle that results in a ridiculously lousy ship that makes no sense at all. (badly implemented)

If all this does not matter to you...give it a try.

A beautiful little diamond in the rough...about to become shiny and nice.

What it is:
A Sandbox to play with, a nicely generated world with a distinctive look to it, has a certain toy feel to it but man the Interface ROCKS. What a wonderful idea and it works pretty well even for its pre-alpha style to it.

I love how you can place ressources onto slots and your backpack. There is no "inventory" screen. The screen is the inventory, the world is your inventory and you can interact with it. You put something down...it stays there...until the wind blows it away :) Enjoy searching it...

Your base has a few slots you can attached your stuff to, you can also construct some more buildings, construct cars, generators, even shuttles...

However after you built all that and had a TON of fun experimenting and exploring thats it...for now. It is a lovely start for a promising game and even my worst glitches and crashes got fixed after 2 days. Now it works buttersmooth and if you are not afraid of an early access pre alpha bugfest in good shape, go ahead, have a couple of hours of fun and look forward for more to come.

Looks pretty promising for now.

What it is NOT:
Done, in any way. if you like finished games, wait half a year or more maybe.
It is also not very filled with variation yet.
...and it is not dissappointing...yet ;)

Right now its a kill on sight, kill em all, no one is safe kinda game. And the game does not really support anything else. Even fresh spawns see a better chance in launching an attack on you rather than do the tedious collecting.

I get it that its an FPS with survival elements but it's feel more like a deathmatch with boring crafting and collecting part.

Its way too boring in the collecting part and in the building area to be interessting and taking away from the "kill on sight" ♥♥♥♥ thats going on. It feels rather flat even with the potential for driving some sort of car to speed up the movement between the boring collecting part

A good Game with flaws where it matters
TLDR: This game is good, stay away though if you hate bad AI, comic graphics or tedious repetetive actions in late game on huge maps.

Positives
  • Nice amout of features even without DLC yet
  • Interessting over the top animations for leaders fitting the theme of the game
  • It got more complex with more options to play and fiddle around with other than civ 5 which got dumbed down.
  • Tons of valid playstyles and victory options that can lead unexpected outcomes
  • A lot of fresh new ideas on how to make the game more dynamic, like agendas for AI a good overview of how interactions with the ai benefit you or not with a lot of potential (once its fixed see negatives)
  • Nice music and a bunch of it
  • Plays smoothly if you take the time to optimize for your hardware which can be done through the main menu
  • 1 Unit per tile on steroids, a better system where you can combine units into groups that become basically a stronger version of the same unit type plus you can have support units on those units aswell. You have medics, generals, ramms and so on
  • Beautiful city building idea with the district system that allows for optimization and planning your cities out like a maniac if you like to do so... :) if you dont, dont bother you can still get a decent city without all the perfect placement.
  • Trading is fun, traderoutes create roads and tradeposts which can benefit you later by adding gold to traderoutes that pass by.
  • New road feature (this seems highly subjective) i like that you cant really build a road EVERYWHERE anymore. you have to plan. And its nice that the traders actually create those roads. Makes sense even today many roads in europe, asia and africa are based on ancient traderoutes.
  • Good ideas with the AI: Mass attacks on invasions, attacking in joint wars, helping out friends in need with war declarations when most needed to support, warmongering angers the ai and harms your relation with them

Negatives
  • AI !!! (there need to be way more ! behind this actually it is horrible to the point where it wont upgrade units at all, it wont delete outdated stuff to build more modern stuff, it just uses archers and warriors a LONG time. And i mean a long time, i have seen atomic age civs use warriors besides AT Crews. So they CAN build modern stuff but decide to keep 80% of their troops low tier.
  • Spies: must be the most annoying feature in gaming history. And i am not exaggerating here. Example: Imagine playing a civ with 10 cities. Each city has a couple of districts spread unevenly around the city so not all districts are directly beside the center. Now a spy can cover only 1 field + its surrounding fields. Which means you need 4-5 spies to cover a city with a spread out district system. Or at least 1 for the center if you are lucky. Now that makes 10-50 spies just for counterspying. Now imagine the game forcing you to give each of them an order EVERY ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TURN. Yup, thats how it works (i think its bugged but even every 10 turns is too much) The way it should be is: Never ask for new orders unless told so.
  • Graphics: no fan of comic style, but i can deal with it.
  • Diplomacy is a mess. The ai has no clear concept of stuff that happens at their doorstep and stuff that happens on the other side of the world. On huge maps thats just lame. Why would China care about Germany on a regular Worldmap situation again? During Renaissance or before? Right they wont...but in Civ 6 they do as if they are your neighbours. Just bad!

All in all it plays really fun. Its a smooth experience and its a solid release version with a couple of issues and bugs and some major gamedesign pain like spies. However if you tend to be the player that needs a PERFECT Game stay away. If you take a more relaxt stance its already nicely playable, fun and a good timekiller.

Edit : 18.12.2016 ---
After the patch the game got a lot more enjoyable. Yet the AI still is a piece of rotten garbage. It takes a little longer to steamroll it now, but if you really know what you are doing, it doesnt even matter too much. However for a casual approach to the game it should be some decent time killer now. Still the AI does not yet know what to do with its troops, it just doesnt.

And thank god Civ is not one of those games where the trailer at the end matters... it is utterly utterly dissappointing.

Oh yeah and spies are still a horrible mechanic, but you dont have to give them the same order over and over and over...any more. They seem to just sit where you send them. Which is good. Place and forget is about as much as you should be forced to do with this horrible spy feature

I dont understand all the whining about paid DLC and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about not enough updates...it came bundled together, got better even enhanced some stuff visually for normal ARK.

I like that. And if it keeps the company running and the AMAZING ARK going...im paying happily 20 bucks.

This Game is just stunning. Its a hell of a lot of fun. Even my Girl likes to play (even though just pve) but i dont even want to write a big review, this game has it all. Including some glitches but since its Early Access its fine with me.

Keep it up @devs good job.

28th May 2019 - Game is playable again, while it still has shortcomings in UI and micromanagement it is pretty well playable. This counts especially with Glavius AI mod and auto pop migration. If you use those mods you will have a pretty damn good time now.

It took you long enough paradox and you still need the help of modders to fix your shortcomings, but since i saw you take the hint and presented a new interface with proposals that those modders did, im happy and it will be really nice once those are implemented.

So back again at 10th of december 2018 after MegaCorp got released. God was i tempted to change it to YES again. But that was before the release actually. Now i am torn...again. I have 2300+ hours in this game and every logical thought should scream hell yes this game you should recommend. But yeah, no! Here is why:

The game itself in 2.1.3 was pretty good, most things got ironed out, it was an ok state. That is why i was tempted to recommend again. Now MegaCorp hit the shelves and 2.2.1 got released. And its a mess. The usual "I am paradox and i dont give a ♥♥♥♥ about QA" kind of release we always get. And i dont want to recommend a game where this is the kind of normal people get to expect everytime a major release comes out.

Yes the concepts are nice, the idea are all well thought out, the balancing seems ok for most part and i think balancing especially in the more hidden areas is the thing they can suck at at release. But stuff like tedious clickfest UI that gotten worse instead of better? Broken Sector automation (again), broken AI (as in utterly nonexistent), broken end game crisis, broken demotion system, highly unpredictable fluctuating economy system and so on...those are just things i cannot recommend. Most of these are noticable within an hour of gameplay. Its not like they couldnt have found them in QA, its cause they barely scratch the surface with their so called QA that makes me not recommend this game.

Wait some months and buy it during a sale, PDX does not deserve full price. Sadly...

Review for 2.0

Changed the review from yes to hell NO!

I have 2000 hours, i founded the biggest german MP group, i have a mod that had at its best times 6k subscribers, another with 1k...you could call me a fanboy or enthusiast.

Still as of now, paradox, really? THIS? The game could be amazing, and i am not gonna go down the road of 2.0 bashing. Screw it that train is gone for now.

What makes me fuming mad, drives me crazy and keeps me from buying any more paradox game in the forseable future is one thing, and one thing only: Paradox QA policy.

Its been a while since i got really mad at a company for being utterly useless at getting their ♥♥♥♥ together but paradox and QA is like the opposite sides of a magnet, it just wont come together no matter how hard you wish for it. Patches get released utterly untested, get hotfixed minutes later, rolled back and if not that they have so many utterly broken things in them, that you can find within 5minutes of gameplay you keep asking yourself what QA is acutally doing. Its a shame, stellaris is by far my favorite game... but with this crappy QA and instead of fixing their game they bring new DLC content, new this new that while you cannot even play Multiplayer anymore cause for weeks now desync ruins your game, reloading makes it worse cause of a hotjoin desync issue and every load is a hotjoin...

Paradox get your ♥♥♥♥ together! seriously!

Review before 2.0

TLDR:
What a gem in the making... lovely, enjoyable, stable even in Mp, still a bit rough around the edges but all in all, worth the money.

Here a few more details from our 16ppl. Multiplayer Release Session:

It started out a bit rough, we couldnt get half the group in since we were using a password protected server. Once we removed the apparently buggy password, it worked like a charm for hours until very early in the morning when the hype train came to a slow stop when nearly everybody was falling asleep because we played the crap out of the game.

And boy did everyone enjoy this. There was no dissappointment in our group. We started out as noobs and within just a few hours we sent fleets of 10k strength out to conquer, massive battles happened and empires got hammered. We even roleplayed our societies and alien nature to a degree. The Game invites you to do it, its just a lot of fun to do it.

Here are some pros and cons:
The game starts out relatively slow. The first 1-2 hours are nice nonetheless cause of the exploration, the discoveries, the endless storylines and the research that enlightens you. But you dont really know what´s happening. There is no techtree you can look up to plan the best way to research and expand. You literally have to explore it. And it was pretty different for all of us. People in Teamspeak were constantly talking about stuff they researched which others never saw and didnt understand...cause it was fundamentally different from what they experienced....within the same game.

The Game was stable the entire time. We had a few crashes for a few guys, for whatever reason but the majority was able to play and the server never crashed. Hotjoining works like a charm, admin can allow new guys to hotjoin or kick them out. It does not disturb the gameflow. (unlike civ, where it stopped the game). It feels kind of well thought through and polished in that regard.

Graphics are beautifull and bring the universe to life. Its the little things that make this game so nice. Supported with the storytelling its just so immersive. You feel like you are in a universe with a history. Stuff you find is thousands, sometimes millions of years old.

The Soundtrack is just freakin brilliant. People in our Server on Teamspeak were enjoying it a hell of a lot. It didnt disturb, it made you feel well and you were still able to play, talk, relax and enjoy the game. What else can you expect?

Here are a few cons:
Sometimes, even though the UI is already well done, the game gets a bit tedious. For example your groundforces have to be managed manually one by one. You will need around 20-30 of them for an invasion. Now you go to a planet, recruit them and now each one of them can be equipped... enjoy the clickfest. Each one needs to be selected, outfitted again and again and again...and then you send them out, select their ships and move them to...whereever. Its tedious, crap and annoying and in dire need of an optimization in the UI.

Revolts seem to be a bit out of balance. Imagine, your fleet just bombed the living hell out of a planet, you killed the defence, took it over, win the war...take the planet as your price and now what? People get unhappy, join a faction, declare war on you and spawn like a gazillion troops. Ofc, those are amazing, kick you in the face and throw you out. It took me 5 planets on full production of groundforces and several attemps to take 1 of 2 revolting planets back. I had to bring around 20-30 Groundtroops for a revolt... something you can take an entire empire with.

Other than that, the game feels well balanced, nicely done and none of us really wanted to stop playing. But we were already falling asleep so we HAD to stop.

Damn you body, for being to weak to play and demanding sleep. Cant you see im hyped? ;-)

11/10 would play an enslaving hivemind again that lives basically forever (in slavery) and is happy about it :D

Have been playing all night now and i think it is time to give a well deserved thumbs up.

Here is why:

I really felt the AI changed in battle and on the map.
Some examples: I was stealing pearls within the borders of the AI and they really dont like that. First they complain, later they close borders to protect their pearls. It´s really cool.

While i was fighting an enemy army consisting of melee and ranged units, they placed the ranged units behind a choke point on a hill. The melee unit was in front and kinda tried to keep us away. It was a bit too far from the choke point but that tactic has potential to make Archers/AI/Battles great again ;)

The New content feels really refreshing. It gives the Game a nice boost and winter actually serves a purpose now. It really hurts now to be slow and not able to gather pearls as fast as others. It can be quite the advantage to have many pearls. But it doesnt feel unbalanced it is just another way of playing. But what it does to the player is: you have to get out, scout, send fast troops (hello all of a sudden usefull winter cavalryunit) to get pearls and ruins and evade marauding troops. There is stuff to do now and it is actually really fun to race for the pearls.

The AI seems however sometimes a bit suicidal :) Not sure why, but in my current game an equal looking army attacked mine, and failed miserably because my troops had basically really expensive weaponry and equipment and theirs obviously not. I did 3-5 times the dmg. Not sure why, but i guess they still can´t handle upgrading troops properly. Or there is a little glitch in evaluating battle chances. However on other occassions i saw them stacking up troops like crazy to hunt down my pearl hunters :) The AI really seems to be bothered by them...it is rather merciless and tries to get you asap.

Also you can pray now for some stuff that affects winter. So basically you can spend pearls to effect how bad winter is gonna get or what negative/positive thing will happen. All AI/Players can and the more you pray the more likely it is you get what you prayed for. Cool idea, i think in MP this can be quite fun.

Apart from the gazillion bugfixes they also implemented with this release i have to say...big thumbs up. I can only recommend and it is introducing so many refreshing new things it does not feel like a "Rip Off money maker DLC" it is actually a real expansion. WELL DONE AMPLITUDE, WELL DONE!!
