Hark! Envision yon realm, where once a grand spectacle - a conflict most dire played in jest, dubbed World War the Second in name - didst furnish merriment for each gallant soul.

Fain imagine a time, when revels ceased and silent grew the game. Bereft of clamor and camaraderie, it laid as dormant as the slumb'ring dead.

But lo! The morrow brought a stir, an awakening most sweet. With eager breast and pounding heart, thine anticipation soared, as rumors spread of its return from shades beyond.

Alas, upon the hour of revival, the joy turned to lament. For what arose was not the cherished pastime of yore, but a visage marred—a specter dressed in trappings false, akin to those of Squad, its kin.

Verily, Post Scriptum hath been transformed, not revived - a trojan clothed in finery. Yet beneath the veneer, 'tis naught but Squad the Forty-fourth, in sooth a macabre masquerade.

Fallout 76 is like that one kid in high school who wouldn’t stop sending you cringy notes folded into little hearts. Sure, they had potential, but they also had a permanent stain on their shirt and thought Axe body spray qualified as a shower. When you first met them, you thought, “Wow, this might actually be the most ambitious 3 I’ve ever seen.”

At launch, Fallout 76 wasn’t just bad—it was a cataclysmic trainwreck that left you wondering if Todd Howard actually looked at it and said, “Ship it! It just works!” The game didn’t even bother with NPCs, leaving you to wander a giant, empty wasteland with nothing to talk to except logs of dead people and the occasional Scorchbeast that swooped down to scream in your face. It wasn’t just lifeless; it was awkwardly lifeless. The bugs were so rampant, it felt like Bethesda had outsourced quality assurance to a Magic 8-Ball.

But Todd wasn’t done. Oh no. Like that persistent high school kid, Fallout 76 kept sliding into my life, showing up at my doorstep like, “Hey, I’ve changed. Wanna hang out?” And for years, I was like, “No, Todd. Go home.” But then—against all odds—76 pulled a full-blown college glow-up. Suddenly, the kid who couldn’t even string together a sentence was rocking Men’s Wearhouse suits instead of the Kmart Special, making $78K a year, and casually dropping phrases like, “My financial advisor says I should diversify my 401(k).”

To Bethesda’s credit (and Todd’s desperate belief that we’d all come around eventually), they actually listened to fan complaints and made real changes. They patched the bugs, added actual NPCs, and gave the game some semblance of a soul. Now, don’t get me wrong—this is still no Fallout 2 or New Vegas, and it’s not going to win a “Best Fallout Ever” award. But it is a decent game now, and, dare I say, even fun.

So here’s the deal: if you’ve got an open mind and some time to kill, Fallout 76 might just surprise you. It’s still not perfect, but it went from being the weird kid in the back of the class to someone you wouldn’t mind grabbing a drink with. And let’s be honest—if Todd Howard personally knocked on your door, smiled, and said, “Give it another shot,” could you really say no?
