Early Access Review
As much fun as I had when the game first came out, and trying to get back into playing the game lately, the recent updates have been somewhat 1 step forward, 2 steps back it seems.

There is zero point to voting for maps anymore with the roulette choice which is force made anyway regardless of what the majority choose.

As someone who had enjoyed roughly 8000 hours in Battlefield 2, thus the conquest addiction was born, unfortunately at time of writing this review for EU servers, in all 32 v 32, 64 v 64, and 127 v 127 brackets there was a total of 2 servers, both half empty for conquest.

Looking back at the player stats for the game, it's a shame really that the player retention just isn't there anymore.

Perhaps they should have added dedicated servers relating to each game mode, including Day/Night because in the hours I've played night has only ever won the vote once.

Better with co-op, still needs a few quality of life/improvements, but otherwise a fun game for those that like the genre.

Great game, you get to plan your route and actions through the level to the objective, hit the play button and watch it play out, then you get to tweak and adjust to complete the mission goal.

Workshop support extends the replayability.

While the game was fun at first, it was quickly abandoned, filled with exploiters and left to fend for itself.

Now with the announcement of C2 being EGS, this is not how you do PR.

Do yourself a favour and pickup MORDHAU instead.

There has finally been a response, but still ignores quite a few problems that people have been having. Keep referring to future patches with no real timeline.

To salt the wound even more the game is already 20% off on the ubisoft store.

I would not recommend the game as it currently is, as someone who has played the Trials games since inception, I'm disappointed with how the game has turned out this time around.

The problem with Trials Rising is with it trying to follow the whole 'I've done something/leveled up - now give me something' The accomplishment vs reward/gratification system as a forced grind does not work for a game like Trials. Once you get past the flaws there is real potential for progression, and hopefully in time when they make changes it might be worth the purchase.

Improvements that need attention.

- The map usage for level selection is just chaos, give us an option to have a classic menu for selecting levels - I know there is filters but still doesn't do anything for me.

- Far too many screens to click through between completing a level and getting back to select the next level and start playing again, I'm here to play a game not fumble through screens (this includes having to navigate the map). Between the celebration screen of completing a level having the times shown with other riders, then the level-up/crate pop-up screen (just show this on the previous time screen). Give us the option to disable the podium screen altogether.

- Loot Boxes - Once again the bane of being shoe-horned into a game just because you can. Duplicates are far too frequent given the actual quantity of items there is to unlock. No option to 'unlock all' crates, delayed opening of said crates with a animation is just a drag. I made the mistake of hoarding them before opening - something which I regret.

- No way to clear 'new' items without having to manually going to each item.

- Victory Animation - no default pose to equip, so now I am stuck with the 'Mooning' one and the stupid kazoo playing the noise every time.

- Unlike previous games, you cannot race against the ghosts of people on your friends list as a default setting - where's the fun in beating a random players time that you will never compete against again, the fun was had when you kept beating each other times. You are forced to select the person from the leader board every time what on earth made this change happen. It's one step forward two steps back.

- Contracts are there to artificially inflate playtime, silly back flip - front flip have nothing to do with a trials game that make you play the game slower - I thought the goal was to reach the finish line with the best possible time. Bring back the objectives from Fusion levels, at least that gave people something to work for.

>> A bit of explanation in regards to contracts, once you have gotten a medal on all current available tracks you are unable to unlock new ones until you reached a certain profile 'level' thus creating a tedious grind for which you have to repeat previous tracks with added goals of which are dull and repetitive, who wants to do 15 back flips and 8 front flips on an easy level just to gain a mediocre amount of xp.

- Menu/UI design is a complete mess of several things including Track Central for player made tracks, it has virtually regressed in terms of features/layout and accessibility having to select and click on each track before being given info about what it is.

Final thoughts

There's no denying that Trials core game play will always be great for those that have enjoyed the previous games. But there is far too many issues/complaints with the game as it currently stands - sure it might be acceptable for new players that have never played the series before, but going on the assumption the people that have bought the game on release at full price are those that have picked up the previous games have a higher expectation/quality.

This is simply my opinion, and what I think of the game so far - I hope that things will improve if/when RedLynx decide to listen to community feedback and when that time comes I will be more than happy to change my rating of the game.

This review is here for people to be able to make an informed opinion of their own and to make their own decision on if the game is currently worth buying if they are looking to do so.

So far the developers have been quiet with no responses, and nothing more than the odd Ubisoft 'community manager' responding to random posts on both reddit and the Ubisoft forums saying 'We will pass it along to the developers'

There has been zero communication between the developers and the community.

It has been a long time coming, it's finally here and was definitely worth the wait.

There's not a lot that can be said other than the game is exactly as I expected, a lot of people that grew up in the 90's would of at one point either played or heard of Crash Bandicoot, this trilogy of games brings back memories and nostalgia.

There is high hopes of being able to mod the game in one form or another just a matter of time before the community produces something.

Now all that's needed to complete the cycle is getting Crash Team Racing remastered.

Early Access Review
Having played the game since Legacy when the game was first released, the game has evolved, and for the worst. Don't waste your time especially as a solo player.

Update 2 Months on:
While there is hope coming from the test servers, with much needed changes the game is still a far cry from being a finished game yet they hope to rush a final 'retail' release before the end of the year and release the new map. While performance is still a massive issue across the board.

Update 8 Months on:
Still a lack of any meaning progress in terms of performance, while tacking on more paid 'DLC' instead of actially finishing the base game, it is still a EARLY ACCESS game at best. Cramming more paid crates and a pass down our throats before even attemping to finish what you started. This game is has DayZ syndrome, incompotent devs, more money they can ever dream of and still don't know what they are doing. Doing more cash grabs just shows how much they don't care about the playerbase, ignoring all the feedback possible.

Developers acting like a child on twitter because of criticism and people not singing their praises and continue on anyway. I dread to imagine what xbox players are going through right now as they are in a even worse shape than the reset of us.

Having only recently purchased the game, and having performance issues anyway, a recent update forced graphics settings which greatly impact game performance even more than normal (forcing shadows + post processing to medium) killing fps.

Forcing a depth of field causing even more fps problems, and even more issues for other players like motion sickness.

Clunky gunplay, the gameplay is currently a rush to see who can be the first to get a x4 or x8 ACOG scope for long range weapons compounded by the fact that hit registration is client side and low quality server hosting.

Very RNG based at round start - the game becomes less about skill and more about who can find the better stuff first before the other guy does that lands in the next house over you can be stuck with nothing but attachements, and they can come out guns blazing with all the bells and whistles you might aswell afk at that point.

Quietly changing a FAQ about changing .ini files - I wonder how many new negative reviews we are going to be seeing over the next couple of weeks in regards to this change.

Instead of doing the competent thing and locking down settings they don't want changed they just leave them open for any mis-informed person to change and suffer for doing so.

There is always hope that things can improve, but the communication between the devs and players is non-existent.

Update 8 Months on: Still a lack of any meaning progress in terms of performance, while tacking on more paid 'DLC' instead of actially finishing the base game, it is still EARLY ACCESS at best.

Game has had it's ups and downs, now it's out of EA it fails to deliver on what should of been a great game.

Leaving Early Access without fixing ANY of the numerous problems that the game has always struggled with major one of which has been performance, and general griefing.

Was barely worth the cost on sale during EA, definitely not worth the cost at so called 'release' price. To top it off releasing an expansion during EA should be a red flag to anyone.

I'm not saying It didn't have it's fun moments at times when playing with friends, but the overall experience could have been better.

I've just gotten around to playing the game having got it when it was last in a bundle, although I do recommend giving this a playthrough and giving it the good old thumbs up, the environments can feel reptitive/bland although the puzzle elements are there some are relatively easy others will at least make you think twice.
