Before you read this, this is a long review and will go over a lot of points and frustrations with the game.

To begin I will say what I think the game did right. The premise is interesting, some unkillable man with god-like regeneration, and so is the story for how far I got. The puzzles seem fun and interesting to beat. The levels are very detailed and look gorgeous. So is the concept of “playable tapes” (where you play as the character in the tape.)

But now to the bad stuff. (I play on normal)

The gameplay is all-round boring. The following AI is either too simple to dodge or too bullet-spungy to kill. The intro sequence after the dinner was fun with Jack following you through the starting area, and the destructible environment just showing his raw power. So is the garage part with the part where the car explodes and he casually walks out of it. As I said I have no problem with the story part of the game. The part that drives me crazy is a common theme in the resident evil franchise:

COMBAT IS BORING. DIFFICULTIES ARE LAZILY DESIGNED AND BOSSFIGHTES DON'T MAKE ANY SENSE.

Fistoff the combat is boring. I have experienced this while getting the third dog-head for the main hall door. I had to go through the ‘processing area’ as the game referred to it and I had to kill a total of 9 ish enemies. When they are individual this is no problem, but once there are 2 it’s impossible to manoeuvre around them, this is especially frustrating when the game also sets a trigger for the enemies to despawn. (so they respawn full health).

The difficulties are lazy because the only thing that changes is that the enemies take more headshots. I expect 2 headshots, maybe normal, so it's a somewhat relaxing experience. But on normal you have to plummet half a magazine in just the most basic enemy.

The boss fights are frustrating as ♥♥♥♥. It's not clear how to beat them, you are nearly instantly dead and you can sometimes go on for 6 attempts without progress. This doesn’t just make them incredibly frustrating, but also feels random. Like you just have to be lucky for the game RNG to throw you two sixes. Then the gameplay is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ boring again. Since the combat is not engaging at all even during the boss fights. You have to do the same thing again and again, hoping they will work.

TLDR: This game is terribly frustrating on the ‘recommended difficulty’ and it really drags down every other aspect of the game. If you want to play it either do it on easy or don't do it at all if you want a relaxing experience.

This first level is kinda hard.

Amazing storytelling and complicated tests. I love the voice acting of both actors and the final battle was amazing. Everything considered; If you like portal and portal two, you must play this game.

10/10 would recommend
