The campaign is fun but the AI in multiplayer is totally annoying. NO fun in skirmish or multiplayer versus bots.
Completely stupid profanity filter that allows me to create an empty name lobby, then nobody can join
This game is developed by people that don't know how to UX

Early Access Review
The game has REAL potential, but the usability is an afterthought, which destroys the overal experience for me
- clunky UI, I actually had to google "how to piss in SCUM" to find out how to empty my bladder as it's not intuitive (HOLD TAB, then chose actions, then what you want to do)
- No Linux support for Multiplayer. I mean come on, it's essentially free nowadays, all you need to do is set up EAC properly.
- No Dedicated servers. This is always explained with priorities but feels like little more than a cashgrab from the dedicated server offerers.
- NO Setup options in soloplayer. Things like length of night or scale of loot can only be configured if you run on a dedicated server - which you have to pay for.

So bottom line, additionally to paying for the game itself, you are essentially forced to pay a monthly subscription to be able to use everyday things that other games offer for decades...

Played a round on I believe 2nd easiest difficulty. At turn 350, the same round I managed to amass enough military to go to war - I just loose because a culture I wasn't even able to reach won culturally. Maybe I am too dumb for this game, but it just really didn't feel good to play it. I'll sadly not touch this game again.

Don't. Simply Don't.

I bought this game during the beta for below 25€ and we did have a lot of fun. That nonwithstanding, the current state of the game post-release is a shame and the developer should be deeply embarrassed for what they force upon their community.

The Pros:

Multiplayer fun
If you have a couple of friends to play with, rounds can be fun. They are highly repetitive, so don't expect to be challenged mentally, but the classes make sense and are diverse, and with the right type of people it's good for a lot of fun.

interesting multi-level definition of "success"
The lobby is divided in up to 5 4-player squads (though only 16 players fit a map, don't know where this math comes from). A well-oiled squad can achieve objectives without external help, which encourages players to divide their forces, e.g. one squad defends the base while two squads independently of each other go for resources and the remains are afk or something xD

The cons:

The interface
The interface has been designed someone who should ask for a refund of their tuition fee. Menu options are confusing, translations are catastrophically bad, hints - where available, such as the information that you have new weapon options - are inconsistent, don't tell you WHAAT they hint for and are buggy. You can change a squad until you choose a class, but not after. This is not told to you. Your Squad View on the left sometimes only shows 3 members, despite the Squad being full. To check who is in which squad, you need to use the 'very intuitive' key combination "TAB, then z". This is not visible anywhere in the UI. When trying to repair a building, you have around a 50% chance that left click starts the repair action. In one occasion, the game just removed any kind of HUD from my screen, which left me targetting with Iron Sights and ask others to look for my health since I had no health bar. Was kinda fun but definitely not deliberate.

Stability
During our first session post-release we (party of 8) had
- multiple game crashes mid-mission
- 2 game crashes in the Menu
- 1 occasion where the game crashed and wouldn't start again, even after verifying, uninstalling, reinstalling, multiple reboots and essentially deleting everything but the operating system
- one kick due to cheating (no cheats were present)
- multiple kicks because of "Server closed" (the remainder of the team was able to continue playing on that server
- a broken lobby where nobody could join or be invited
- countless Lagspikes where the FPS dropped to <1
- multiple (false?) informations that the company server is currently down

Features
The game has a lot of nice ideas, however they are sometimes implemented in a way so idiotic it beggars belief.
1.0 introduced a new game mode that supposedly seems to be some kind of multiple-missions thing. I say supposedly because here we get to the juicy bits. In order to play this mode, you appear to have to be part of a so called "company". You have a randomly selected list of 30 companies to join, but you can also create your own. Of course we created our own - only to figure out that YOU CANNOT SEARCH FOR OR INVITE INTO a company!! Also, the suggestion dialog only offers you companies that contain at least 2 members. However since a newly formed company obviously starts with 1 member, there appears to be actually no way for us to join our own company. Whoever designed this and deemed it fit for release seriously should question his or her life's choices.

One of the more interesting features is that enemy corpses don't despawn. Instead they litter the area and eventually allow the enemy to scale walls and overrun your defenses from a vantage point. While this concept is interesting and I have to give it to the devs that they manage all this with relatively neglible impact to performance, it is BUGGY AS HELL. Frequently, you are unable to actually leave or enter a building because countless corpses and alive enemies intersect and form a solid wall. Even with this, spawnpoints are sometimes INSIDE of corpse piles, which leaves you trying to dig yourself out of that pile while enemies can selectively ignore collisions and still attack you. You can clean up the corpses with melee and some explosives. However, this is also somewhat unresponsive and seems to change between updates without any real apparent concept.

Price
The beta was priced at around 25€. However, for release they raised the price to 50€ AND added Skin Packs on top, which brings the total tally to around 90€. This is a ridiculous entry price even for AAA games, let alone for such an unpolished bugfest (pun intended) like this game sadly became.

Conclusion
This game had high aspirations and a very compelling theme it was set in. The idea is interesting and the core gameplay loop is fun. However, the developers in my opinion completely dropped the ball by overpromising, favoring new features over actually fixing usability bugs or even considering usability in general. Also, the 1.0 tag appears completely random, subjectively I would say the polishing of the game HEAVILY decreased between the last beta and 1.0.

Personally I do not regret having bought that game in Beta, however I strongly advise anybody who made it until here against spending money on this unfinished, badly thought-through wreck of a game.

Update: I am still playing it but with increasing rage quits. The devs just don't understand how to design a game and I would actually pay to have them never release a game again. What the ♥♥♥♥ kind of concept is "oh here you have an endless horde so you will loose, glhf" for a game? Did you watch your playerbase lately? Hardly anybody plays the game anymore but sure, let's focus on punishing the players for minor glitch abuse rather than fixing the plethora of bugs the game STILL has. Oh you are revived? here, let us spawn you INSIDE A BUILDING! Oh you try to complete a mission? too bad, we're not counting it. Oh you are dead? here you can walk around, but not shoot. though you will not be revivable because ♥♥♥♥ you. I could rant on for hours. It really beggars believe how badly this game is written. The premise is marvellous, the possibilities endless. And the studio decides to flush it down the drain and adds insult to injury by making this unmitigated bug-desaster harder with ill-conceived modifiers.

Needlessly locks out linux players. Spent 300 hours in the past (before EAC).

Fun thing: EAC WORKS UNDER LINUX! It's apparently just a limitation that FP is doing for no discernible reason.
Thaks for nothing 👍️

And yes, I know I can host a dedicated server with EAC disabled, however they don't show up in the Server list and therefore can only be connected to manually.

The game launches into "Lost Connection to Host" immediately. Joining any game causes it to crash.
Looking on google shows that a lot of people seem to have these issues ever since the game was released and Team17 doing basically nothing except telling people to fix their Firewalls.
Multiplayer Games aren't exactly a new invention and even if it turns out that a good percentage of players might have had configurations that caused the issue, the question needs to be asked how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up your netcode can be that it is so dependent on user configuration. There are literally tens of thousand of multiplayergames nowadays that "just work".

Uninstalled after trying for almost an hour to get into at least one game.

Stopped playing after 25 hours because the autosave softlocked me in a space battle I cannot win but also cannot flee from. Last regular save is 6+ hours in the past and at this point I can't be arsed to replay so much just because for some reason you cannot flee-jump away from a battle
