While very pretty to look at, this game SUCKS! I may not be the best gamer, but no clear tutorials, bad reload mechanics and unclear abilities and controls make this game more frustrating than fun. I understand games that grind, but awarding no experience to new players if they don't complete a level is stupid. Not recommended.

great remake of the circus maximus board game. Each race is different, and the campaigns are long.

This is a really great game for fans of Strategy games who don't enjoy the stress of real-time battles and management. The turn-based system allows for a bit of a more leisurely playstyle. Can play cooperatively or in teams. I think this game is kind of a hidden gem in terms of overall enjoyability.

The hero-leveling mechanic and the city-building mechanic form two really fun ways to develop armies and leaders.

Other reviewers have complained that there's not a lot of strategy in army unit selection, with armies of sheer greater numbers usually trumping smaller ones. However, I find that this aspect is a nice balance when encountering tougher levels and AI.

Additionally, the UI and hotkeys make the playing of long turns quite tolerable.

Another really nice touch is the auto-resolve section of fighting battles. You can start a manual battle, and if you want to auto-resolve it after you started, you can, which makes it very entertaining to watch your large armies engage the enemy without actually micro-managing the battle. Very Fun!

Pros:
- visually striking game with lots of little added extras.
- nice combination of hero leveling and city building.

Cons:
- limited initial maps
