genuinely up there with super metroid. deeply satisfying in every detail. clearly labored over with a singular design and vision and love.

this game has absolutely no business being as fantastic as it is for the asking price. impossibly replayable.

a zachlike modular synth game isn't really something i realized i needed but hey, here we are

difficulty goes from "i could patch this in my sleep" to "i do not understand logic gates" really quickly, and some quality-of-life improvements could be made to the interface overall like easier access to settings or choosing a different layout for the current puzzle without exiting to the main menu would be great, but this is just eerily tailored explicitly to my tastes

[edit 2021-09-24]

welp seems at least getting to settings from within a puzzle works now so QoL improvements are obviously happening :D

i can't even put into words how much i adore this game. it's beautiful, it's overwhelming, it's heartbreaking, it's tense, it's comfy, it's fascinating, it's warm, it's bleak, it's clever, it's void of filler, it's impactful, it's important.

this game easily became one of my short-list all-time favorites and i genuinely cannot possibly recommend it hard enough to anyone who considers themselves "curious" or "exploratory". there is nothing else quite like it.

if you're the type to be easily moved by music, prepare to be absolutely wrecked by the soundtrack as well.

the controls will take some getting used to for anyone not familiar with newtonian flight in zero-g but their simplicity once learned is remarkable.

yes, i am purposefully avoiding saying almost anything about the game itself; the less known about it going in, the better. this is a mystery, after all.

impeccable soundtrack, timeless aesthetic, fluid gameplay, kinda wonky controls but WHATEVER

genuinely one of my favorite games of all time and should have pushed the dreamcast to unbeatable status but NO people had to have their PLAYSTATIONS instead >:(

it's katamari. it's finally on PC. it's HD. it's beautiful and silly and fun and brilliant and still as good as it was a decade ago.

the cutscenes are only in japanese audio, the 3d world and the HUD seem to have incongruent framerates, and the game is locked to a windowed display until after you finish the "tutorial". worse things have happened.

everything else is precisely as expected and as i wanted.

i genuinely enjoy this game for precisely what it is. chill, grindy, explore-em-up. take pictures in space. it's a glass of wine after work. sometimes the wine needs to be aged.
