While I do agree with the critiques that the negative reviews have for this game, I DO NOT think that it reason to not recommend it. The movement, gunplay, graphics and technology here are incredible, and they WORK flawlessly.

I can't stress that enough. This game looks amazing and runs even better. The effects, graphics, audio, and performance are AAA quality. And the destruction is some of the best in any game PERIOD, let alone a multiplayer first person shooter. It is more than just a gimmick, it is full scale building destruction that syncs among clients flawlessly.

The guns and movement are addicting and satisfying. The modes are new and fun. While some more variety will certainly be needed further down the line, the current game show-style FPS cashout mode is very fun. I don't see any reason as to why they would stop there.

You can tell that first person shooter veteran developers made this as a passion project. This leads me to believe that they will listen to the critiques and fix the problems such as 3rd partying, the cashout system, and certain weapon balances.

Play this game.

No developer apology letter here.

Lies of P's concept sounds like a cool mashup of genres you would come up with for a game that won't ever be made.

"Dude, imagine a souls game where you play as Pinocchio." Except not only was this game actually made, but it is in my opinion the best game of 2023.

This game excels in everything. First off, its 2023 and this game worked at launch. No glitches, poor performance, or developer apology letters. It is a fully baked game with an extreme level of polish made in Unreal Engine 4, which is not old news despite developers marketing their 150GB unoptomized UE5 games as next gen and revolutionary.

The setting and story is the strongest aspect of this game. The twist on the old fairy tale of Pinocchio works so well as a darker, expanded story with aspects of the original cleverly utilized throughout the entire game. The levels are beautifully designed with Belle Epoque era themed architecture, enemy puppet designs, and VERY BLOODBORNE inspired sections as well.

Mechanic wise, other reviews have already explained much better than I, but what's important is that the familiar and addicting progression/gameplay loop of all good souls games is here, with a lot of unique and new things here. There is a lot more depth to progression than just your levels, which allows for multiple different gameplay styles.

The combat is the bread and butter of the game, and it is perfect. This game draws from Bloodborne's primarily aggressive combat style. Lies of P pulls through where Bloodborne's awkward "parrying" mechanic lacks, however. Blocking with the incredibly tight parry window in order to build stagger is intense and incredibly rewarding, especially when you land the staggering heavy and fatal blow. These are heavy hitting, flashy, and satisfying.

You can tell that the developers saw this game as a work of art above all. They should be incredibly proud and deserve every penny.

If this game is on sale, wait and buy it at full price.

Amazing value here. Lots of guns, maps, modes, a campaign, spec ops, and more all at launch with more free content to come.
