Absolutely amazing game.

Would honestly be worth it for the Steed Force Hobby Studio mini game. <3

A great way to get started with bass (or guitar), introducing basic concepts and techniques together with a lot of popular songs.

The tabs for the songs tend to be very accurate, however sometimes they've picked live or newer versions of a song that might have been played differently than the original/album version. Since the note detection supports enharmonic notes you can readjust the fingering to suit you, for instance the octave of the low E can be played on either E-12, A-7 or D-2, so for songs you might already know the fingering of the tabs can be distracting but shouldn't prevent you from playing it the way you're used to assuming it's the same actual notes.

If you really want to learn the instrument, make sure to practice scales, arpeggios and other fundamentals outside of Rocksmith, as well as trying to play along with songs without visual guides. (Rocksmith has a "Mastery" mode for that but it's good to practice with a radio/Spotify etc as well.)

If you're learning on your own investing in a single private lesson or two might be good for a proper foundation before you get too deep, but if you're already studying or about to study the instrument Rocksmith is the perfect addition.

There is also a massive custom DLC community where you can find a lot of artists and songs not available as official DLC. (Not on consoles but since you're reading this on Steam I assume you will run the game on PC/Mac.)

The USB cable ("Real Tone") sold separately is worth the money for its simplicity, but if you already have a sound interface like iRig, FocusRite, etc there are ways to use Microphone mode or setup a virtual input device. Look for "no cable" solutions on /r/rocksmith or Google. The Real Tone cable registers as a USB sound interface and can also be used with your DAW or similar if you're interested in recording and don't have a sound interface already.
