It's a shame the demo is time restricted, and not content restricted. This makes it harder to take your time learning all the new mechanics and looking around the world. The graphics were also a little rough around the edges, with some graphical glitches on the horizon and road textures not connecting properly.

That being said though, as far as I can tell the new mechanics are amazing. I like that they turned NPC quests into contracts so you're not being pestered by the NPCs all the time while also having options on what to do if you need some extra money/items.
Albion felt really good, and the world building in general is once again spot on. I decided to embrace the celtic culture, but I haven't taken the other path just yet, so I can't tell if there's any mechanical difference besides embracing or draining the swamps. That will be for another time, when I'm not limited by time.
Oh boy, diagonal building! I love how smooth it is to transition between straight and diagonal and I think it will help me a lot to build more organically. Though it took some time adjusting my muscle memory to remember to double tap , and . to rotate 90 degrees. I also feel like the game could do with some corner options for buildings because except from filling it with decorations, there's really not a lot you can do with the insides of a 45 degree angle in a road.

Can't wait to play in future playtests and explore further where I left off in the hour I had

First off. This is not a factory building game. This is a puzzle game. And that's fine. As a Factorio and Satisfactory enthusiast, it's nice to not have to worry about construction cost, energy consumption and/or pollution for once. It's nice to be able to build things at heart's content, only being limited by your own creativity, ambitions and perhaps building space. I can hardly see anything else but positives.

The UI is clean, clear and does a good job explaining itself. The tutorial is well structured, taking small steps at a time helping to guide beginners to deliver shapes. The game is user friendly, for it shows you the amount of machines you need to keep up with a full belt's supply for example.

The ever present positive feedback loop that makes games factory building games so addicting is also present. Your Shapez factory will expand and expand and generally only grow bigger and more impressive the more shapes you will deliver. Old shapes might become unneeded as you will make new shapes to deliver. However, with some creativity old shapes can be used to create said new shapes, and I think that is where the beauty in Shapez 2 lies.

Great game, all the love for Arrowhead.

But honestly, Sony can just get bent
Edit: Changed review to positive now that Sony decided not to follow through with the required PSN account.

I've played this game during free weekend while I had 0% knowledge about the game. Of course, the Newb I am, I picked the easiest of the two planets to start from. The tutorial leads you through the beginnings very well and there were not too much aggressive monsters from the start. Although it sounds harder than it actually is, as there will be only one to start with, you WILL get attacked by drones on your first night already. I like the mining mechanic a lot, as you won't be spending hours underground digging dirt in hope for some of the basic materials, and it is not too hard to discover new deposits, as you see them from ~475 meters away. I really enjoyed my time. I didn't even die once!

However this game starts all over again every run, it never feels repetitive.
