I've just reached Act 2 and the game is absolutely incredible. I really really recommend it very heavily. It is a very clear evolution of the first game where every aspect of it was iterated on and improved. From unlockables to items to npcs to story to interactions with the world and even currency, everything is just perfectly tuned and a true evolution of the first game. If you've read the negative reviews constantly bashing the game's difficulty then I'd like to address those:

The game's more punishing, but your toolset is also much wider. Fighting as Hornet is nothing like fighting as the Hollow Knight (they've also made parrying so much easier it's an actual combat mechanic to do so). And if you're worried about the complaints on too much double damage/8 hits to heal, you can hit far more often against every boss in this game than you could in the original hollow knight, and healing is so safe that I've yet to find a single boss that makes it even slightly difficult to heal. There are like 2 normal enemies (flying chasers) that makes it difficult to heal but I've managed even against those with careful positioning. In the original Hollow Knight it was not only more dangerous but also less rewarding to heal than it is on this one by a far margin. Also runbacks in this game are really fun (first game ever), they're really enjoyable because movement in this game is so satisfying.

And for those complaining about currency, it is really a non-issue. I've yet to have problems with it, it is really just people that have either not played the game enough or want it mouthfed to them.

EDIT: Use your currency whenever you want to, spam your tools, buy whatever you want, save your inventory currency for maps/benches and emergencies and you should be fine.

Imagine screwing up a perfectly fine UI so much that it legitimately warrants a bad review. Insane.

P.S: The new UI is still ♥♥♥♥, it's just absurd how much effort it takes to do such simple things as changing to the Soul Survivor game mode. There are so many things that are entirely unknowable unless you explore the needlesly cluttered UI for them like hunter progression, and there's a bunch of completely useless buttons like the "New in Store", "Discounted" and "All Equipment" in the weapon skin store, which is also needlesly difficult to find.

The reconnect takes so long that you might just lose your hunter from everyone extracting, you will still run into very obvious cheaters every 20 matches or so which makes me wonder how many of them I died to thinking they were playing fair because they weren't obvious about their cheating.

All that been said, the game is in its healthiest balance state its ever been, and the UI is not nearly as horrible as it was when I first made this review. So I'm changing it back to a thumbs up for now.

I've never seen a game whose negative reviews could be more accurately responded with "skill issue" than this one.

This game is nothing short of a masterpiece and a one gigantic puzzle that iterates on itself over and over again in the most satisfying possible way. I want to say more but I really don't want to spoil it any more than that, I can't recommend it enough frankly.

It's unbelievable that they released the game in this state, it's full of bots and RIDDLED with bugs.

And it's up to YOU to change that, enlist today Helldiver! Go to exciting new planets and murder bots, squash bugs, decimate everything in your way that doesn't have a cool as ♥♥♥♥ cape.

On a serious note, there are quite a few bugs at launch, I haven't experienced most of them but some people aren't even able to play. That been said, when the game works, it works flawlessly. All of its systems come together to make a truly unique cooperative experience, it's really really amazing. It's also REALLY fun, I recommend this game VERY highly.

Most people you see complaining are honestly either getting skill issued or simply don't like this type of game. And I don't say this to be elitist, I say this because the game gives you every tool you need to solve your issues, it IS hard, but the only thing higher difficulties reward you with is faster progression.

While I absolutely love this game with all my heart, I cannot recommend it for south american players as there are no servers in south america, and the game happens to not be p2p so lag is an issue even if you're playing with someone on the same house as you.

But if you're looking solely for the single player experience then go ahead and buy it, absolutely great game. I just wish I could co-op with my brother as I tend to do with every game ever that has co-op.


EDIT: After coming back to this game a few months after, I realized the devs had added a p2p version and it is absolutely worth. If this demo even remotely clicks with you then get the full version, it is absolutely worth it.

I expected so much of this game and I can't say I was let down, however it really feels like Left 4 Dead all over again and I've gotten really tired of that game. If you miss l4d and enjoy the new additions then go for it, this game is for you. However, I'm really sad to say I don't recommend it if you're not that kind of person.
