this is my first experience with riichi mahjong
i hate it, yet i can't stop playing it

Some of my favorite genres include strategy games, card games, and management games. This game perfectly combines all 3 into a super enjoyable experience. I downloaded this wanting to try it out on release day before I went to bed, and the 2+ hours I spent playing it flew by before I knew it.

There is a huge cast of characters (champions) to choose from, and each character has their own perks and cards. You create a team with 5 different characters, and go against your opponent's 5 characters. There is a pick/ban phase so you can ban an annoying character you don't particularly like playing against, or one that counters your team.

You also get 5 "players" that also have their own skill levels and cards. The players specialize in playing certain characters which you can level up over time. The mix results in a lot of different possibilities for you to explore. I've only scratched the surface of combinations to choose from.

On top of the fun gameplay, the game has victory animations for every character that gets MVP which really adds style and immersion. I really enjoy seeing all of the new victory animations whenever a new character gets MVP.

The core gameplay is extremely fun. There is an amount of time where the game is in "autobattler" mode, and it proceeds based off of both team's stats. Once you get 8 points, the game pauses and you can use the points to play cards you've randomly drawn from your deck. Cards can do a variety of things from allowing you to position better to attacking enemies to shielding/healing your team etc. The win condition is to push into your enemie's base and kill their final objective (nexus.)

PROS:

Fun strategy gameplay

High replay-ability

CONS:
Pace of the game is a bit slow, would love for a 16x speed instead of 8x
Some translations are a bit strange in English at the moment

OVERALL:
Get this game! It's super fun, and I hope some future updates fix some of the cons :)

Primateria has exceeded expectations so far. This game which was made by a small team of two brothers has all of the fun and charm of some of the more well known roguelites out there. The tutorial does a great job of explaining the mechanics of the game, and it's super easy to pick up and learn. Don't let the deceptively simple gameplay fool you though, as there is quite a lot of strategy and planning involved in order to play the best possible turn you can. I'm a huge card game and roguelite/roguelike fan, and I managed to have a run end really early due to not paying full attention to what was on the board.

Overall I would definitely recommend this game to any card game and/or roguelite fans out there. The art is fine, the gameplay loop is fun, and the interactions between the cards are interesting. I'm looking forward to putting in a bunch more hours to fully explore what the game has to offer so far.

If you are a fan of Teamfight Tactics or Auto Chess, then this is the game for you!
Great combination of the auto battler and roguelike genres.
