Let's start with the good. There are a lot of cool builds that you can do once you unlock all the talents. The Romeo and Juliet mechanics are fantastic and really fun to play. I wish more games had co-op mechanics like that. Some of the characters can be very fun to play and are quite interesting.

However...

There are a fair few things that I would call game design issues. I will preface this by saying that I often play on the hardest difficulty.

1. You will often die while you're stuck in an animation. You see it coming but there's literally nothing you can do to stop it.
2. Apart from one or two, melee characters are very difficult and often not that fun. The cooldowns are just so unforgiving and so it's often impossible to get away if you get rooted by something. It's similar to 1. I wish there were items that lowered cooldowns.
3. The first boss is the worst one. If you're unlucky, they will get an attack pattern that is faster than you can reliably deal with. And just forget trying to pick up a downed friendly. It's a huge cognitive overload trying to deal with the tentacles as well as the main boss.
4. For characters that can block, some attacks are unblockable. However it's not clear which ones. You just have to learn them by dying. Fun.
5. The randomness is a bit too random. Runs will often end because literally nothing good is on the map and you don't get any good rolls on items.

That being said, I am recommending the game if you want a challenging cooperative roguelike experience. It's fun but frustrating. I hope that the developers learn from the feedback they got on this game and make it better, or perhaps a sequel in the future.

Potentially the most fun survivors clone that I have played. It's like building your own lego tank covered in guns and then fighting endless waves of hordes with it! Smashing into a massive group of enemies feels amazing as they explode and bits fly everywhere.

The graphics are charming and it has that "just one more upgrade" addictiveness. Have wishlisted and will buy it for sure!

Early Access Review
Atmosphere is great. It has a very gritty look and feel which I think is one of its strongest points. It's got a medieval fantasy setting which works pretty well. It's what drew me to the game in the first place.

Level design is ok. Areas can look a bit samey. I found myself getting lost a lot. I think if they improved the map screen it would help, and also use less of the same texture everywhere. The levels are also huge and you have to backtrack a lot. I got bored way before the level was near finishing, but you can't quicksave. If you quit you have to start the level again. I made that mistake once.

Quest design is terrible, it's basically just a key hunt. Door locked, find key. Unlock door, reach another locked door, find key, repeat.

Honestly the worst thing for me is the combat. The enemy AI is completely braindead, and circle strafing defeats every enemy currently in early access. The basic zombie enemy has a lunge attack, the giant lizard thing has a lunge attack, the armoured zombies have a lunge attack. You get the idea. Circle strafe === win. Zzzz

It's somehow positioned itself as the spiritual successor to Hexen without capturing what makes combat in the Doom engine so satisfying. Movement is so slow and there is a stamina mechanic that slows you down further. Slow, boring, don't buy.
