Played a lot before it came to Steam and got to level 62 and then had a bug with the character that messed up the carry weight, making the character useless. We're coming up on 2 years of ongoing development and updates, and this game is still a raging dumpster fire of nonsense. It doesn't even meet the standard of "polishing a turd" because they haven't done anything with the turd, they just added more ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ turds. The original NPC-free quest-line of the game was ♥♥♥♥ enough, but instead of going back and redoing it with NPCs, they just slapped NPCs around the map to parrot what was already there before. I'd say something about late game content but I can't get to that point because I've lost three characters since I started playing again earlier this month. One made it to level 5, and then the game crashed and it was gone. One was lost immediately after trying to leave the vault. I made it a bit past level 10 on the last one and gave up. There's no salvaging this game. Fallout 76 deserves to be buried with the Atari E.T. games.

I want to clear a few things up about this game for people new (or returning) to the franchise. This game is getting review-bombed for an unremarkably controversial decision to further the game's lifespan and revenue by introducing paid DLC weapon packages, as was the case for Killing Floor (1). Newcomers (or returning players) may not understand why this matters or how this is affecting players. The reality is that this change won't affect the gameplay much.

Tripwire does really well with DLC weapons. I can't recall any DLC weapon from KF1 that was game-breaking or necessary to have to be good. Most of the DLC weapons had a gimmick, like a harpoon launcher. Others were just new weapons like a Tommy Gun that were more or less on par with non-DLC weapons, sometimes just being middle tier. The current DLC weapons available in KF2 are no different.

There are (to my best knowledge) currently 2 true paywalled weapons in the game, and 2 weapons for owning other games:

  • Rhino (on par with a DEagle)
  • The Ion Thruster (on par with the Katana)
  • Road Redeemer for owning Road Redemption (trash melee weapon)
  • Zweihander for owning Chivalry (arguably the only case where a DLC weapon is far more powerful than base game weapons)

The current issue is that the Rhino and Ion Thruster have a heavy cost for only one weapon. Tripwire wants to move forward to a DLC content package that comes with multiple weapons and skins for a lower cost.

The fortunate part about the paywalls in Killing Floor 2, however, is its Content Sharing system. When playing online, if anyone in the lobby owns a DLC weapon, everyone in the lobby will be able to purchase it at the Trading Post and use it for the duration of the match. If you tend to play with a certain group of pals, only one of you will have to purchase the DLC weapons to use them. If you just matchmake randomly, you will at least be able to sample the weapons or play with people who own the DLC regularly.

Yes, Killing Floor 2 has bumloads of loot crates and you will be astonished at the number of cosmetics and their cost. It's absurd. But much like Team Fortress 2, most of them are trash and none of it matters anyway. So far, no non-cosmetic/gameplay-changing items are in crates.

Killing Floor as a franchise is a well-renowned classic at this point and does not deserve the hate. It has received consistent updates for three years for free. With the current pace of game development, the only other option would be to ramp down support and work on a new title (which would have had to have started a long time ago). Instead, Tripwire dedicated themselves to polishing, refining, and refreshing what already is a great game. I wrote this review in support of the game because I want to continue to see a flow of players to help keep this game alive. It is clear that Tripwire wants to continue supporting the title and I think the community should see the silver linings in this controversy.

-----

If you are new to the series and you are truly interested, read reviews about gameplay or watch some videos of gameplay. The controversy should not turn you away from at least giving Killing Floor 2 a chance, as it is truly a great game for all types of players. The gun play is satisfying and easy to get used to. This game focuses a lot on team play and it's nearly impossible to win this game alone. There are some perks that are capable of winning solo when levelled up but this severely limits your playstyle. Everything feels balanced and no perk feels too strong or too weak when properly utilised. The inventory system (works like TF2's backpack system and is not a gameplay element) is really messy right now and requires you to restart the game from time to time as what is displayed to you seems to desync from the item server.

This is all just the surface. The game also has a rotating weekly outbreak challenge and seasonal challenges that, when completed, award a cosmetic item as well as tons of Vosh. There is no other game that satisfies the itch I have to pop the heads of hundreds of enemies over the course of a single 20 minute match. This game can be extremely difficult if you want it to be. It can be relaxing. It can be really funny and really dark and gruesome. I hope those of you who choose to buy the game truly enjoy it, as it is a fantastic game. Just remember, each second you are away, another horde of freaks is born to feast on your friends. Are you just going to abandon them?

Really fun game for people who like these bridge building sims. It's nothing like the other ones, yet so much alike.

Sniper Elite V2 was my last Sniper Elite game. I enjoyed it thoroughly but I remember V2 being a very "on-rails" shooter where you have a simple objective and one direction to go. V2 was extremely fun and satisfying to me on its own, which inspired me to pick up SE4 when it went on sale during the Lunar New Year Sale.

SE4 gives you an open-world feel and more than one objective with limitless ways you can go about completing them. Kills feel far more satisfying, maps feel bigger, and you have to get creative to stay alive. A few reviews mention maps being too tight and close to be a sniper and too much unlike the previous games. This is not true at all in my experience. You really have to look for the good sniping spots and be decisive in when and where you choose to engage the enemies.

All in all, I really enjoy SE4 and it scratches an itch that no other game can get like Sniper Elite can.

I have heard a lot about Dark Souls over the years - mostly that it is one of the most challenging games out there. When it went on sale for the Winter Sale 2017, I figured I should give it a try. It's cheap and very highly rated.

Dark Souls III is a no-BS kind of game. It doesn't mess around. You start a new game, make your character (I selected a warrior, being that it is the easiest class to play), and you're thrown right in. There is no hand-holding introductory level that carefully guides you into the world. You rise from the dead, and you are thrust into an unforgiving landscape of undead foes and relentless bosses. I was surprised to find that even the first boss in the game is totally unforgiving and difficult to defeat. Dark Souls has me constantly trying to find new strategies and ways to battle and every enemy feels challenging; even the grunts at times. One wrong move - one over-confident approach on an enemy - will get you killed. I must have lost to Iudex Gundyr about 15 times before I finally picked up on my mistakes and learned his moves and strategy. That victory is the most satisfying victory over a first boss I've felt in a game ever. Most first bosses are just sponges with high HP, but Iudex Gundyr is a formidable and skilled foe.

The combat system is unlike any other game. You have to choose your moves carefully because once you commit to one attack, you have to stick with it. There is no cancelling a move. Dark Souls' enemies requires you to be patient and calculated. You aren't able to just rush all the enemies because even the grunts will predict what you're about to do and slash you before you can get close. The knights are significantly challenging in comparison to all the undead grunts that just rush you with a sword. They'll block with their shields until they corner you and then beat the crap out of you.

Moving on to Lothric Castle, I've died countless times now, but made a little more progress each time. I've never been both so frustrated and satisfied by a game at the same time. If you are looking for a game that is interesting, beautiful, challenging and full of growth for you as a gamer, I recommend picking up Dark Souls III, even if you have never played a game like it before. Because I haven't, but I am completely sucked in.

Don't let negative reviews scare you away. I find most of them are about comparing DS3 to previous Dark Souls games. If you're looking to hop into the Dark Souls universe for the first time, DS3 is a solid game on its own.
