I have an AMD 9800X3D + AMD 9070 XT

Game used to only crash on reloading saves once in awhile.

Now it crashes on every launch, even with latest drivers, even after uninstalling it and reinstalling it.

So right now, for me at least, it's literally unplayable.

0/10 would not give Todd Howard money for horse armor again.

Me: *start the game*

Game: No game unless you accept the EULA, Terms of Service, and our sus privacy policy.

Game: Also, you'll have to waive your right to participate in class action laws-

Me: *uninstall le game*

I'm trying to play a game not close on a house, why are there so many legally binding documents I need to accept to play a single-player game?

Hard pass.

This game is perfect when you want to support your team in more ways than just shooting. Logistics is essential since it's the lifeblood of the fight. The systems are deep, so there's room to grow.

Also... it runs on the Steamdeck which is a massive bonus because many multiplayer shooters don't due to Easy Anti-Cheat.

Came back to play this game after like 10+ years or whatever.. and I'm not sure what to say.

Back when it wasn't F2P and bots were a rarity, this game was amazing.

But now, if you're going to play this game, Bots are everywhere. Casual or Competitive. I hard to suggest it unless you have some community server to go to.

Maybe I have to give the game another 10 years or something before I re-install it again. The bones of this game are good and still hold up, but the botting ruins the fun.

TTK in this game is unsatisfying and feels inconsistent. The game feels ruined by the amount of grenade spam with no default equipped counter (in many other modern games you can attempt to throw them back). Where's the killcam? Why doesn't it just re-match and shuffle players instead of kicking you out to lobby every time? Why does loading take so long (I expect better running on a Ryzen and an SSD in 2021)? Why aren't other players pings visible?

For a modern shooter, this game is trash. It's basically a crappier arena shooter with either maps that are too big or movement speed that's just slow enough to encourage maybe using vehicles. It does nothing to improve or elevate the genre or even the franchise.

Maybe recommend for the story, but not really the multiplayer, I guess. And I only really care about the multiplayer.

Update: Due to the shields, this game is less about fast initial pinpoint accuracy and more about staying on target. Because of that, the aim assist is extremely strong for controller inputs and gives those players huge advantages when shooting strafing targets versus a keyboard and mouse. So if you're playing with a KBM, you're at a fairly significant disadvantage because you have zero assistance with tracking. You'll have to predict their movements while the aim assist will guide controllers instantly sometimes without any input at all. Odds are with KBM, you will have less accuracy overall, you'll rarely get perfects, and therefore have much more difficulty finishing off players.

The effect of the aim assist is increased when both the target and the player are strafing from what I've discovered through testing. Also not all weapons have the same strength of aim assist. For example for the sniper, it only assists when in ADS and it's not as sticky as something like the BR. Aim assist also doesn't counteract recoil. I'm not sure exactly how range from target factors into it all.

Overall, I think this game should have a "Use with controller" suggestion on it because of how disadvantaged you are playing on KBM.

Also, less significant but possibly important to some people. There's a not-insignificant amount of bullet magnetism. However, it seems to apply to both controllers and KBM. Whether it's the same strength for each, I do not know. How consistent it is, I do not know. If it's inconsistent, that adds another variable into why you may or may not be landing those headshots.

Update #2: The netcode in this game is garbage as I indicated in the initial review. But after playing a few more hours, I've run into many more obvious cases of taking damage after ducking around a corner out of line of sight of the attack. So in combination with the aim assist, bullet magnetism, you have to deal with terrible netcode that you can't even verify (no players pings, no all chat, nothing). I don't know if anyone can relate to this, but I have like 500 hours of insurgency sandstorm (a game where one or two shots kill you and bullets can pierce walls) and it dawned on me today that I have had the experience of dying after jumping behind cover while being shot at more times in Halo Infinite than all my time playing Insurgency Sandstorm. And Insurgency Sandstorm is made by an indie studio with WAY less funds and WAY less marking than 343. They also support more than 4v4... So it's kind of inexcusable to have such garbage netcode.

This game is fun. And it's free. So if you're just looking for a game that's quick to get into and play with some friends. It's a recommend.

---

However, if you're a serious semi-competitive player, I do not recommend this game. If you're like me what's not fun is feeling like you're not in control of your performance due to the netcode.

The netcode is bad and it makes everything feel suspect. You can't even see other players pings (or possibly your own ping). My guess is 1047 Games doesn't let you see other players ping because their server latency is garbage and possibly their netcode in general.

People will pop through portals that you've closed just moments before, they'll shoot you around corners you just ducked behind, melee battles are kind of a joke because you have to preempt your strike at ridiculous ranges to accommodate for latency, the radar map feels borderline useless (is the player above me? are they below? are they on the same level? who knows!?), and the replay cams you can't trust because they're always inaccurate.

So after playing this game for almost 30 hours. I have to say that if you're competitive and dumb stuff like that turns you off, you should pass on this one, dawg. Like for me, if I keep playing I'm going to die an early death from my blood pressure being too high.

I want to like this game, but I really can't get over the netcode.

---

I also can't get over:

* the fact that headshots are so undervalued with the carbine. It takes 4 shots to the body and it takes 3 shots to the head. HEADSHOTS should be 2 hit kills with such a weapon, otherwise it's basically worthless and you might as well just use the assault rifle.

* the fact the aim assist for controllers is questionable if you play on PC and have crossplay matches.

but those things are tiny compared to netcode.

Only took me 4 years to finally get around to beating this game. Pretty solid game. Few bugs if any.

Kind of cathartic if you don't get too heated losing progress over and over and over and over again.

This rhythm game is barely a rhythm game when you compare it to others. Typically tracks in other rhythm games are tailored to follow certain instruments or vocals at different times of the track. For example, maybe a melody will happen in the Beat Saber, then the cubes will follow that melody. and you'll strike them to that melody. But in this game, rather than following the melody, it is solely reliant on the the BPM and it does nothing to help you get you into the "rhythm". Sure, targets show up at different times in this game. But it doesn't sync with the melody; Your shots must solely line up on the BPM regardless of when target spawn or when they fire.

The only thing that's rhythmic about this game is that the music has a beat and gives you the option of shooting on that beat, but it doesn't help you keep your rhythm by spawning targets on the beat, or having them fire at you on beat, or providing an obvious order/pattern to shoot targets in according to the beat. If that could get fixed, this game would probably be right up there near Beat Saber.

Early Access Review
First impressions from free weekend from a person who plays mostly first person shooters/slashers (Insurgency/Mordhau)

My one word description of this game: Clunky.

If you've come from Mordhau or even a more basic game like Dying Light you're going to be extremely dissatisfied by the melee system. It's the most clunky thing I've ever experienced for melee. It's like molasses and lag combined and had a baby. How a melee system could be implemented so poorly in a world of games with better melee systems, I have no idea.

The gunplay is clunky, especially if you come from any milsim-esque game. This game feels like playing like Captain Jacksparrow from the early Pirates of the Carribean movies. it's like you only have one shot and if you miss you're going to have a bad time. Why? Because it takes forever to load, the fire rates are slow, the ranges are horrible (unless you unlock better weapons).

The netcode is also clunky. I've been in multiple matches with a ping of 30, but there is still significant rubberbanding. That rubberbanding has made it difficult to take that important single shot I need to kill someone. This could be because of the free weekend, if so, you can throw away this point.

The anti-cheat is clunky. I've been kicked from a match by anti-cheat because, "A detected network interruption between client and The Hunt:Showdown server." Why is anti-cheat care about my connection to the server. Kicking someone because either they get a sudden drop in bandwidth or because your netcode is actively garbage is stupid. Some of these matches can take quite a while and you get nothing out of it if anti-cheat kicks you. Anyone remember Punkbuster? It's slightly as bad if not worse than that.

This is probably a nit pick, but the loading screens in between matches reminds me of GTA5. It takes forever to get in and get out and that's no fun especially in these kind of games where most of your time "playing" is just you walking around an open map hoping to spot people.

Here's the gameplay loop:
* Get in, pick and customize your hunter (gameplay)
* Looking for a match (wait)
* Loading screen (wait)
* In match, waiting for other players (wait)
* Match finally begins, walk around looking for clues like you're Sherlock Holmes (semi-waiting)
* Surprise! There's people or a boss (intense gameplay commences)
* Get kicked because the netcode is garage and go back to waiting.

If that's your cup of tea, you're going to have a blast if you can look past all the clunkiness this game has. For me, my guess is the game doesn't get fun until later once I start unlocking better non-poopy weapons. But with that said, I don't think that gameplay gets any less clunk and I can't enjoy a game this clunky. So for that reason I'm out.

---

Only positive to this game is theme and aesthetics.
