better than half life 2 and i mean this unironically

mid overall. good ideas with combat, not enough ♥♥♥♥ in the game to sink your teeth into. Not enough interesting or hard fights, I played through the entire game on the hardest difficulty. I like the system though.

story was very bland to downright kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with some of the social link stories, character writing was very bland to mediocre. very very dry, safe narrative that's afraid to say anything

I went into this hoping to 100% it but I don't really give a ♥♥♥♥ enough to do it now tbh, very disapointing game. If you haven't played nocturne or SMTV and only have money to pick and choose, choose one of those 2 instead of this game, you will enjoy those more.

I bought this game like 2 years ago. There are like 3 expansions since I've bought the game that are around like 30 dollars each, some of the mods depend on these expansions. The modding community is great, theres a lot of cool stuff. I haven't played any of these expansions but I can't imagine that they expand enough of the game to warrant the 30 extra dollars for each one if you're someone like me who is terminally broke, but the base game at least is very worth the 35 dollar price tag, I'd be willing to pay 60 or 70 even if these expansions were free updates like terraria, or games like valheim do.
This is my first game in this type of genre, I've tried games like Dwarf Fortress and did not like them at all, this game is very easy to get into and enjoy I think, everything is straight forward and easy to understand. I think people who are hesistant to try this type of game because they've been put off by other community managers should give this game a try at least.

As fun of a game as Smite is, a big portion of the community in game are just weirdos.

And Hi Rez shows almost no interest in policing some of the worst people who play this game. I've been called literally every slur in the book and seen the same people in the next game I play, the game I play tomorrow, a week from then, a month from then.
What's really weird is it's always some ♥♥♥♥ about trans people, I'm not trans and I don't have anything in my profile to indicate or imply that I am so I'm really sus about what kind of ♥♥♥♥ Hi Rez has been allowing to fester in the community if the go to insult for little weirdo ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on this game who get really mad over casuals is "tslur tslur tslur tslur tslur theythem sjw cuck tslur tslur"
There's one dude in particular that I get every other week who only plays Rama, only queues in solo (he will dodge if someone picks Rama or goes solo) and types only in all caps, clearly is esl, and always spams some variation of "NOOB BOT NOOB YOU SUCK AT GAME" but with more broken english that's almost impossible for me to organicly replicate in text.
Another thing that's weird is that I'll get queued with people who spam ♥♥♥♥ in hindi and spanish all the time. Like all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time. I'm so confused because I'm queuing in NA, which are the servers specifically for Canada and the USA. And they have a South Latin America server in the server list too? The only explanation I can think of for getting so many of these people is that the Spanish speaking servers are so unsupported or dead that they have to come to the NA ones if they want to have any reasonable queue times. Which says a lot about how Hi Rez cares about it's Hispanic and Latin american playerbase if that's the case.
Another weird aspect of this game's playerbase is how little sense some of the interactions I've had on it make. I literally feel like I'm playing with bots sometimes. A very very very common thing that happens, is that a person will come into the game, die in the first 4 seconds or so, obviously get mad and blame it on everyone else, and then when you go to respond with literally anything they will straight up pretend like you don't exist. It's the same pattern of behavior each time, wait for something to happen in the game kinda worth commenting about, say some ♥♥♥♥ like "no jg bad diff" any collection of assorted whatever the ♥♥♥♥ the collective conciousness of these people comes up with on the spot. And no matter what happens, even if everyone there tells them to shut the ♥♥♥♥ up or clowns on them, they pretend like nothing was said, even with the next thing they say. It genuinely feels like these people mute the whole lobby just to talk ♥♥♥♥ and go alalalalalalala I don't want any of the ♥♥♥♥ I talked to come back to me.
And lastly, in game reports do ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I assume it's because they don't have any sort of warning at all against reports that are fraudulent or irrelevant, reports that have nothing to do with any rule breaking behavior. So what this results in is people crying to report people after LITERALLY (QUITE literally) every single game. If someone plays bad they will ♥♥♥♥♥ at their team and the enemy lobby chat post game to report them, if you hurt their feelings by telling them to stop ping spamming after they died in mid to a 3 man gank no one could have done anything about they will cry for everyone to report you. The report button is a cope button people press when someone makes them mad for any reason in a game. Even support tickets, which I've sent in for particularly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ people don't do anything.

Normally I despise the argument that a game is bad because of it's community, it's low iq ♥♥♥♥ to attack games or media like Undertale, Homestuck, Rick and Morty, 1 guy in the The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II: Rise of the Witch King forum that called you mom gay once, because of like a handful of people on Twitter with 100 like tweets (at most) saying ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. But in games like these, especially mobas where you need to interact with the community and other people(unlike any of the media I listed), it can absolutely ruin the experience. League unironically has a better community than this game. Until Hi Rez decides to make some big changes in the way they enforce their rules, big changes to their report system, I would recommend playing league for a community that isn't utter ♥♥♥♥♥. I have never gotten ♥♥♥♥ in league in my 200 hours playing in anything. Casuals, Arams, Role queue, even queuing in low priority queue with my friend to get him out of it when I started playing. Nothing. In smite I get people freaking out in all caps telling you to kill yourself because they're losing an Arena game. It's sad.
None of this is to slight the people that work on the mechanical part of the game, I think if this game enforced it's rules like League did it would be 100% the better moba, no question. I love the game, I'm not gonna stop playing after typing this up either because it's still fun even with 3 man queues screaming down your neck every other game. It could be a lot better without encouraging ♥♥♥♥♥♥ behavior by ignoring reports and letting people who do and say ♥♥♥♥♥♥ stuff go unchecked and unhumbled.
