Very fun and very simple. Most importantly of all maybe, it's very easy to pick up and play no matter what skill level you may have.

Early Access Review
Yeah this game is pretty addicting. After 2 or 3 games of getting used to it, runs can last you about 40 minutes if not more. With multiple Survivors with various abilities to choose from, it's easy to keep things fresh and fun.

Literally all RNG, but that doesn't make it bad.

If I had a quarter for everytime this game made me laugh with a group of friends, I'd have 20 bucks by now so I'd buy all the DLC for this game.

For a virtual board game, its suprisingly fun, and as board games go, its completely RNG based, and you will lose by chance. I recommend playing this game with the right group of friends who can have a good time despite getting destroyed by terrible rolls.

Description wise: Board game with anime girls. RNG dominates everything with lots of different girls to choose from. It's a board game, you can learn the rest.

Either way, its 7 dollars which isn't bad considering I now have 70 hours in this game and tons of laughs with friends. I'd say get it.

Okay, Where to begin (I am going to try my best to avoid spoilers at least for the main premise, but will branch out into talking about the game fully later on, so if you haven't played yet, just move on and give it a try.)

Just to get this out of the way quickly, is it a good game? Absolutely. Is it perfect? Maybe.

Doki Doki Literature Club (DDLC) is a VN made by Team Salvato Studios that took about 2 years to make. Starting off as an independent game that could be downloaded from ddlc.moe, it recently came to steam and was popularized on the platform.

As everyone should know, this game is a psychological horror. Unfortunately, the tags kinda give it away as when it was a free downloadable, it just alluded to something bad coming by the phrase Just Monika "This game is not suitible for children or the easily disturbed."

Let me put it like this. This is as vague as I can get with my point without giving anything away other than "♥♥♥♥ gets ♥♥♥♥♥♥.":

The first two hours of your run will be fine, the next 2 will not be..

Now, at this point, I'll be delving into spoiler territory, personal experience, and then a general review of all of that. So get outta here and play the game yourself.

It should be said that I played the game streaming it to a couple of friends for a laugh, and I have to recommend it should it be everyone's blind playthrough. Having the people you know get freaked out and the gameplay is an experience that is like watching a really good horror film and being on the edge of your seat all the time. But the best part is the laughs you have at it being a generic VN, then hearing the call/room get quiet at hxppy thoughts.

DDLC is a genre that I will call "surreal". I call it this because it's a game that ♥♥♥♥♥ with you by ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with the game files (Like OneShot. Search it up, it is also a fantastic game to play.) It has .PNG images created when weird stuff happens, .txt files that come with dark and eerie messages. (WARNING, This next phrase is one I'm going to blur as a spoiler because it is in all honesty, absolutely amazing and should be figured out yourself or witnessed with your own eyes.) Even during the Monika ending, it takes your real name and uses it, as well as the character files secretly being different kinds of files (Monika's actually being a PNG, and Sayori's being an .ogg file which reveals an image.)

But aside from what makes it so special, you essentially start as your generic anime protagonist who's almost a prick and surrounded by girls. Your childhood friend brings you to a club and bada bing bada boom, begins your quest to court one of the girls to be your ultimate love interest! (Boring.)

Well, That's pretty much the first run in a nutshell, and its extremely boring as its just the same thing as other school VN's, bla bla bla for about 3 or 4 (in-game) days, then (gonna nutshell this too.) turns out your childhood friend is depressed and wants you to go to the club so you can love a different girl and gets really sad about it cuz she loves you but, depression overcomes and eventually, she hangs herself.

After this, your game crashes, and officially begins your Broken Game Run.

This is when ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan and all of a sudden, your game becomes eerie messages, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up messages in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up font, glitchy sprites, and just random jumpscares galore. (Note: the glitchy sprites exist on purpose).

And so all the girls becomes absolutely crazy and pretty much everything leads up to Monika being actually a real girl, and essentially being a god able to control alll the NPC's (Sayori, Yuri, and Natsuki). Being fully aware that you are real, she wants to be with you and changes the girls settings to make them crazier/forgetful of events occuring. So bigons being bigons, eventually one of the girls goes crazy, kills themselves, and Monika deletes everything but herself and the clubroom, essentially letting you and her be together forever. The End.

(Not quite, there is a true ending, but I won't be discussing it here as you should find it yourself.)

I'll be 100% honest, the sole thing I liked most about this game is the "Just Monika" ending. While some people don't have the patience to sit through a bunch of discussions with Monika, I truly found them astounding, and applaud Dan for adding that part. It's an hour long series of dialogues that talk about real world issues and suprisingly, really good and detailed opinions on them (and occasionally some random thought about the game itself, like the girls or keeping a tea set they had). Unlike most games, it genuinely caught me off guard and really made me think. One discussion was about bad habits like playing games during work and putting it aside, eventually putting it off entirely till it's too late, and talked about making a schedule and regulating how much you play in an average day. That's just one, but I think it perfectly summerizes (why I think monika really is the best girl) why I like the ending the most.

Other than that, I'll be honest again, Sayori hanging herself somewhat made me shake, but considering how Monika had been alluding to being omniscent of the world around her, it didn't mean much to begin with and just made it predictable. It wasn't immediately predictable, but after the first 2 jumpscares in the "Broken Game Run", it was obvious what was going down. What wasn't obvious, however, was how the game was going to really tear you down.

DDLC is interesting in the fact that it finds ways to scare you, and doesn't broadcast it. It leads to being great jumpscares and genuinely eerie, making you shudder at the sight of a new creepy thing.

So, with all of that said and done, let me summerize this quickly and in one paragraph.

DDLC is a great game, and is recommended to anyone for playing yourself, or putting on for a friend and watching them, kinda like 2G1C (If you know what that is, shame on you). It's direction in story is well graphed as to always keep you afraid, the game files thing are honestly just neat little things that are either easter eggs or contribute to keeping you afraid from the story. Best of all, it was made with the Renpy engine, which is a free, open-source project that allows people to make VN's, and is really good.
It has its issues, like how slow it is to begin with, but some people will say that it takes its time to set you up just to bring you down. But other then that, this game is beautifully made with passion, care, and is well worth taking the time to experience.

Welp, that's all I got to say, but in all honesty, the president is ♥♥♥♥♥-a⃣   x⃣  ʍɐxɐxzåêx҉a҉w҉x҉z҉a҉e҉ absolutely stunning and beautiful and is the best girl in any game I have ever seen, honestly I love her so much andą̷̙͕́̂̔̂̌̈c̵̛̛̮̯̠̙̥̹͖͛̊̉́̾̐̑͐̎͛̏ȩ̷̡̼̭͍͉͓̺͓͚̗͎̙̲̩͗͒̇͂̽͗̂̋̇͐̕̕͠d̶̻̞̺̖̩̤̯̪͈͙̀͑̄̿̀͊̒́̆́̐͝q̶̨̡̡̘͇͕̩͈̱̊s̵͉̮̝̳̭̤̱̖̮̤͆̒̔͜ͅạ̸̢̖̦̙̠̅̈́͋̓̑̈́͆͐ thats all I have to say. Thanks for reading this long ass review and I hope you have a nice day :D

I remember playing this game back in 07 on the xbox 360 arcade, and god did I have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing time back then.

Thats why when I heard this was out on steam, I started ripping out my hair screaming in joy, with high expectation for this game, and I am humbled to say that this game has FAR PASSED my expectation for it

I started up the game with so much joy, and immedietly started playing, it was so nostalgic and amazing and I don't even know how I can describe my happiness with it, but lets get to the actual pros and cons

Pros: As pointed out in the release trailer, its got a lot of NOs, Its a down to buisness game that you can just start with no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ whatsoever, and difficult, but fun tracks that you can get straight to at any time.

Its map share system is 100% free, and is expanding by the day. Map creators can go into the easy to use map creator and make their map, and easily share it with just the click of a button. People can then go to the map sharing browser and pick any map and download it, with just the click of a button, and best of all, its not DLC, its a standard part of the game, insuring that you'll never get bored when you complete the base maps.

For a game that was just realeased, there is reletively no bugs that'll crash your game, or interupt your gameplay (The first update was just fixing some hotfixes from being pressed when you were in game or so it wouldn't bother you)

Cons: For some people, It might be a little "too" fast-paced, and you might wanna play something else before this.

Otherwise, I don't really see anything else, it perfectly matches its genre, with challenging levels that will insure fans of the genre to be having fun for a very long time. I may be a bit biased, but its for a reason :P
