This game's basically like a Hydra; for every puzzle you solve, another two takes its place. How deep does this go?

An absolutely brilliant game! Cooperative fun-times meets excellent gun-play; an awesome recipe for Managed Democracy.

Brilliant game! A bit more micromanagement heavy than you'd expect from a Paradox game, but still really well done.

Say what you will about the microtransactions. Say what you will about the price point to entry.

Artifact is a very interesting and enjoyable card game. There's a lot of deep thinking involved in the very simple act of balancing your heroes across lanes; in choosing when to play certain cards; in trying to overcome the odds of someone just playing with better heroes.

And with the latest 1.2 patch? Valve is clearly listening to the complaints of the unbalanced RNG and the concept of progression. There's a lot of fun to be had if you're not looking to spend your hard earned money beyond the initial price of the game.

Early Access Review
If you're a fan of FFG's Lord of the Rings: LCG, then know this: this game is not a carbon copy of that card game experience. It is a streamlined version of that game, with a number of interesting changes.

Interesting how? Instead of having delegated phases to dealing with drawing cards, questing, having new problems show up, blocking, and attacking the minions of Sauron, this digital adaptation plays like a game of high-fantasy tennis: you and Sauron take actions back and forth playing allies, events or attachments, commanding them to block or defeat enemies, or help with questing hazards and objectives. It creates an interesting dynamic that makes the game quite challenging, especially on Hard mode.

This game is still in Early Access, but the developers have been listening patiently to the players about ways to make it better. Coop mode is on the way, as is more cards to finagle with. The game is quite barebones right now, but what is here is interesting to start with! It does feature some elements of pay2play though, so that might not be everyone's cup of tea. I did pay for the second tier to try out the Early Access and haven't been compelled to buy anything else though!

Stellaris: Space Opera done right.

A solid 4X / Grand Strategy Game in the vein of PDS's other titles like Europa Universalis 4 and Crusader Kings 2. Every sci-fi trope you can imagine can be done in-game or comes at you through those wonderful storied 'event chains' that PDS are well known for. The soundtrack's also incredible!

Be warned, however, that the game does feel 'rough' and there are a number of game systems that feel unfinished. The handling of Sectors, Frontier Outposts, and the general flow of Diplomacy actions are examples of these. However, I am extremely hopeful that because of how successful Stellaris has been by community and sales that PDS will continue to update and expand on the game through their plethora of DLC's.

If the words "Extremely Late-Term Beta" don't phase you, then get this game! If you're not looking to mess with systems that'll still bug on ya in weird ways, then I recommend you look elsewhere for games with more polish.

1. Do you like games where social manipulation (think Mafia, The Resistance, Battlestar Galactica, Diplomacy, etc.) is a part of the game?

2. Does the idea of lying to and deceiving other players in a gaming setting sound like fun?

3. Do you enjoy games that feature a sort of "King of the Hill" feature?

4. Do you like "King of the Hill" games that could potentially allow non-King of the Hill players to win if they play their game right?

5. Do the concepts of power struggles and trying to wrangle unruly mobs into an ordered society appeal to you?

6. Do you find the concept of rabbits fighting over a gigantic robotic overlord armed with a chaingun, missiles, and flamethrowers amusing?

7. Do you like games that present considerably more depth than what you'd expect from a skin-deep description of 'rabbits and guns'?

If you answered YES to a majority of these questions, then OBEY might be the game for you to try out!
