The movement feels incredible and the combat feels impressively and refreshingly complex (for this style of combat) while still feeling really natural and exciting. It seems like there are a lot of cool unlocks to give a sense of progression.

Enjoyable game overall but definitely feels like it just came out. Seems like there are a lot of areas of improvement but for $11.99 on sale this is a super fun game if you enjoy tower defense games and roguelites. Excited for how this game grows with more updates/improvements.

I imagine even just adding an endless mode, a fast forward button, and a few tweaks to the roguelite aspect of the gameplay loop would make this game worth closer to $20-25 for a lot of people.

The vertical sensitivity is different (lower) than the horizontal sensitivity which cannot be changed in game. The fixes I found recommended on various forums all mentioned the fixes don't work for everyone - it did not work for me.

I have heard very good things about this game and I am confident it is a fun game, but for me it's hard to get past the conflicting vertical/horizontal sensitivity making it feel very unnatural for m+kb.

The first half hour I played this game I was so excited. I watched a friend play it and it looked awesome, didn't even hesitate to pick it up to try it myself. Once I jumped into it I was sure this would be a favorite of mine. It feels great right off the bat, but that started to wear off. There are a few things about this game that really just fall short, as it truly is so close to being an incredible game. Unfortunately those few bad apples do spoil the bunch.

Pacing

I want to barrel head first into the enemy and I don't care if it takes me 100 tries to do so. That's what feels good in this type of game and that's what I expect as a player and what the game initially leads you to believe. I felt like the game was jerking me around between extremely fast paced action where my character doesn't stop moving for a second unless I'm dead (which happened plenty, no issues there though) and stopping to look around and see which direction I'm headed, sometimes requiring me to wait for certain mechanics of the game like when you get to whatever the 'digital world' type area where the game removes mechanics like dash and wall running forcing you to walk around and entirely sucking the wind out of my sails. This does not feel natural and it makes the game feel frustrating to play. I have no issue with a game forcing you to look around and think, and not every game is going to be fast paced all the time, but I don't feel like I have to stop to think because there's some puzzle I need to solve - I have to stop and think because I can't figure out what direction to go, so I have to put 5 seconds into spinning around and going "oh okay I just wall run on that" and it doesn't feel the least bit rewarding. It feels like a game demo that keeps on going.

Mechanics/Technical Limitations

This is a major gripe for me and I'm really struggling to put it into words. At first I thought I was just making mistakes a lot and that my muscle memory just wasn't there yet. Then I started to realize that my grapples that wouldn't work are just a part of the game that is broken. I realized I was missing wall runs and jumps because I can't figure out exactly what my character hitbox is. I also realized that sometimes I was getting kills didn't really feel like I should have been successful in killing them and it started to feel less rewarding when I would get a kill. I also never felt like I got fully comfortable with combos/pulling off cool moves because a lot of the momentum doesn't feel quite right. Sometimes I'd come flying at an enemy and other times I would slide and jump off and I would just get dumped off. A lot about the game doesn't feel consistent and it makes it infinitely more frustrating to play.

Leaderboards

I got even more excited about the game when I first saw there were leaderboards whenever you finished a stage that would show your record time and deaths compared to your Steam friends times and deaths for that stage. This was quickly squashed and became a negative that further eroded my enjoyment of the game. There are two reasons for this: (1) Many of the levels are a bit too long to make me care about playing efficiently for speed or for lowest deaths; (2) You don't have the option to turn off the leaderboard, unless I missed it. What I mean by the levels being to long is that I am not a speedrunner. I want to casually play the game and go back and forth with a friend trying to top high scores. To do that, stages would ideally be less 5 minutes or less so that I can retry it 100+ times and get a little closer each time without putting an entire day's worth of gameplay into it. At first when I was thinking through why I wasn't liking it as much and I came to this conclusion I then thought "No it's just my fault that I'm getting these garbage times, because want to play the game fast but I also don't want to have to replay the same mission (which in many cases, quickly got boring) and encounter the same spots where I have to slow down or wait in order to continue. There are too many points, at least in my ~2.5hrs played, that are just simply not fun to go back through. On top of all of that, many of the points I mentioned about the mechanics/technical limitations completely kill me ever wanting to return to certain levels. I really just wish I could turn the leaderboards off now because I am the type to not move on from a level unless I have the high score against friends but I don't care to do that anymore and now it just feels ♥♥♥♥♥♥ every time I move on from a level. This should be the type of game where I don't mind spending hours trying to beat a friend's time on a single level. I spent an hour on a single stage in Katana ZERO (which takes 10-15 seconds to clear) because I wanted to choreograph the fight in a particular way that was really tough but satisfying to pull off, and I enjoyed every second of playing that over and over again. This game not so much.

Overall it's certainly not a bad game, but I just can't recommend it after this game started to wear on me. It really does feel like a demo for a game that leaves me wanting more, but the limitations I've described hold it back from ever getting to where it feels good to keep playing. I'm sure plenty of people won't care about many of the things I take issue with and I'm glad they will be able to get more out of this game than I have been able to. I only played about 2.5 hours and maybe I'll play more at some point but I can't help but feel let down by how much promise this game seemed to have in my first 30 minutes of playing it.
