i didnt think i'd like the game due to its casual nature, but it was surprisingly fun. you'll like it if you liked playing the min maxing game in the previous borderlands.

a poem

all in all it's a really simple game at its core
especially for a AAA game in 2024.

you take on robots or aliens with stratagems and guns
which are like short-cooldown MMO abilities, liberally flung.

aliens are fast and melee hard
robots are slow but shoot afar.

killing robots ain't fun
when they can see you but not vice versa, in the foggy sun.

aliens make the game about fleeing half the time
so you need a teammate to shoot their behind.

when i'm last man and have 1 second to call reinforcements or be shamed
typing in stratagems is like a lame rhythm game.

on lower difficulties i can live with it
on higher ones you need some keyboard macro powergaming ♥♥♥♥.

game is overly sad but once you play Ardyn (and watch its prologue) you totally understand why everything is so sad. if you play it without Ardyn, it's a weak story. If you play it with Ardyn, it's a decent story.

in fact. you need to play Episode Ardyn for it to make any sense at all. If you don't play it, FF15 will completely confuse and frustrate you. I actually recommend playing it before you start FF15.

but the poor presentation of events makes this a overly confusing game for new players (while advertising as the opposite)

Game is very similar to Mutant Year Zero, however i like that game more. i know its a ripoff of xcom, but it actually does it better.
-there's more equipment, unlike xcom where you wait half the game to start getting more equipment.
-in xcom you regularly miss point blank shots which is really annoying, in MYZ you dont.
-in MYZ you value each character more and more as you level them. in xcom soldiers die in like 2 shots on regular difficulty, throwing out all your hard earned promotions. this means you have to keep your more valuable soldiers safe, relying on constant save scumming. Sure theres tons of cheap recruits to spare, but i dont like soldiers being expendable like that, and you still need veterans in the late game . (maybe the strat is do missions with recruits while sending the vets on covert ops)
-in MYZ stealth is a big thing and well implemented. in Xcom it's impossible to kill stealthily unless you're that stealth race. you can't sneak up behind anyone, you can't set up "clean ambushes" and not alert others. every ambush attack alerts the entire map, and they instantly know the position of each of your soldiers. this isnt realistic if they were going for realistic combat, since real soldiers kill in stealth all the time.
-loot timers in xcom are kinda weird, why should loot expire? let me focus on the battle at hand, not worry about loot expiring faster than my food!
-the two really nice things about xcom are the moddability and the engaging story. i still have respect for xcom given its fame and legacy, but i think there must be a reason why theres thousands of mods out there. I'd love if i coudl find a combination of mods to turn it more into MYZ, or mod it myself.

edit: i actually made a mod, and it's taking off! game is a lot better for me now. dont mind the hours played, they're all coming from the launcher running. https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2776786477

edit: made 20 mods, and they're pretty popular now. changed to Recommend because of how moddable the game is. check out my fave mod list

Reminds me of warface. Are they the same creators? enemies move the same way and are just as stupid. turrets are similar. guns are kind of inaccurate just like warface too. a ton of gun customization options but need to be patient to unlock them all. checkpoints are kind of far apart, and there needs to be a pause button because I need to get out of VR sometimes to check up on stuff, then get killed and lose tons of progress. other than that, it's really fun. i really appreciate a fps game devoted to long single player/coop campaigns. thumbs up devs!!!!

Essentially a 3d adventure game with adult scenes. Well written with surprisingly mature social interactions. Just suffers what many adventure games suffer from, which is getting stuck for a long time from missing a piece of the puzzle. to avoid this problem, it'd be nice if you can have multiple ways to complete a goal.

I also suggest making it a little more lighthearted since women seem really needy. i enjoyed the brief comedic fun from the grumps.

It's really cool to be able to build a custom story and download others' stories.

simple strategy, linear game. very easy on easy mode, very hard on hard.
a ♥♥♥♥ ton of dialog. at least a novel's worth of text, but entertaining. i guess that's value for the money.

very wordy. cant walk 5 steps without hitting a wall of dialogue. practically makes it a visual novel. other than that great.
